Above is sort of what I imagine Seth to look like only with white spots the size of stars on his pitch black fur.
*Edited* This chapter is dedicated to my editor. RunningTallySeth's pov.
I smell something weird. It smells like another wolf, but not really like a rogue. I mind link the wolves with me, telling them to be on guard and to be careful. Then I see the wolf, just lying there on the ground. At first I think maybe they’re dead but then I look closer and see the rise and fall of their chest. I growl to wake them up; they are up and take a defensive stance, but I can see confusion in their eyes. The four wolves with me come out to show the wolf they are surrounded. They look around and I can see they are judging whether or not to put up a fight.
I shift and put on some shorts.
"What are you doing on my territory!?"
When they start talking I know they are a girl. She says she is sorry and she didn't know. Then I tell her that I can't just let her go, and that I have to question her some more. She picks up her bag and tells me if she sees one false move that she will take off running, and I don't doubt that. We get to the pack house and I tell my four wolves to go home, I can take it from here. I ask her to have a seat, and I can tell she thinks for a second before sitting carefully, as to not trigger any traps that aren't there.
I ask what pack is she from, and she stutters and has a confused look on her face. I tell her I know she isn't a rogue because she smells different. She tells me she is from Shadow Death Pack. I become really curious to know why they'd allow a pack member to leave. Their reputation for being the strongest would be ruined if packs find out they just willingly let a member leave. When she tells me that she wasn't treated well, and her own mate rejected her, along with her parents pretending that she didn't exist I can barely believe it. She tells me she saved her beta’s life and still people only cared for a day, maybe two.
I ask if she wants to join my pack, the Silent Warriors. She looks happy but keeps it cool and says if I'm serious then she would like to join. Then I watch as her old bond breaks and a new one forms. I tell her to go eat and then get some rest since she must be tired from traveling. I watch as she leaves to eat, then hear her go to the room I set up for her. As her heart rate slows I know she has fallen asleep. The next morning, I want to show her around the territory and test how good of a fighter she is. I crack her door open just in case she was doing something and see she was still asleep. She looks so relaxed and peaceful.
I notice that she has a picture in her hand, and me being curious, I creep into the room and look at the picture. It’s a picture of a dog, it looks beautiful. Not as beautiful as us, my wolf blurts in my head. Blake is my wolf and has the worst timing. I creep back out of the room and shut the door quietly, then knock and pretend that I just got there. I hear her stir a little, so I knock a little louder, and I hear her get up. I now know that she is NOT a morning person. "What is so important that-!... oh alpha, um, so sorry for yelling at you."
"Hey there sunshine, by the way you can call me Seth."
"Oh ok Seth, you can call me Ruby."
"I see you're not much for mornings?"
"Not much no, but what are you here for?"
"I want to show you the territory a bit and see how well you can fight."
The look in her eyes when I say that makes me want to take it back. "I'll be ready in less than ten!" I’m suddenly scared. I don’t know any girl that could be ready in less than ten, but sure enough seven minutes later she opens the door and says she is ready. This is either going to be the best or worst decision ever. I show her around while everyone is getting up and ready. "And over there is where we will be training," I say last.
"Last one there is a smelly old dog!" she yells. And to my surprise a few others join in in her impromptu race.
I need to run more, for she came first, with me right behind and everyone else after. I hear whispers of "She beat the alpha in a race?", "How is she so fast?", and "Where did she come from?"
"Alright!" I boom in my alpha voice. Everyone flinches slightly except her. "We are here to train like always, but I also want to test our new pack-mate's strength."
"Are there any volunteers that would like to try?" Everyone looks around, avoiding the question, and then Carla (my best friend's mate) steps up. "The rules are simple,” I say. “Don't kill each other, and the fight ends when one of you surrenders. Let the fight... BEGIN!"
