GRAY SET OFF IN one route, instantaneously attaining Zach's attention as he made a quick grab for his little brother, crying out his name. Zach pulled Gray back just as a pterodactyl soared past them, avoiding Gray by a millisecond. Zara was hysterical, peering around at the catastrophe encircling her and glaring at Gray, Kenna and Zach as if the whole thing was their fault. "Don't just stand there!" she squealed, and before we could retort, Zara was lifted into the air by a pterodactyl and carried away.
Kenna let out a scream of alarm, shielding her lips with her hand to muffle it, as Gray let out a noisy gasp of his own. They watched in horror as the pterodactyl that had clutched onto Zara flew the both of them higher and higher into the sky, further away from the trio by the second. Then, she was released, and another pterodactyl swooped in and grabbed her before she plummeted to the floor. "Zach," Kenna gulped out, seizing his arm as she couldn't tear her eyes away from the picture in front of her. Zach was wordless but began to pull Gray and Kenna towards the pool that Jurassic World used for the Mosasaurus feeding show.
Zara was soon thrown carelessly down into the large pool and at least three pterodactyls went after her, making impatient and greedy grabs for her. When one of them got their hands on her, it began pulling Zara towards around the water, almost drowning her. At that stage, Gray, Zach and Kenna had come to a stop just in front of the pool. A large snarl emitted from the pool and the Mosasaurus bounded out, apprehending both the pterodactyl and Zara in its mouth. A mixture between a sob and a gasp came out of Kenna's mouth as Zach clutched onto her hand as placed his other hand on Gray's shoulder.
"Get inside, now." Zach commanded in his 'I'm not messing around' tone. We took off sprinting towards the closest building, Zach and Kenna maintaining their linked hands and making sure they could clearly see Gray, no matter what he was doing. The three of them ran past the screaming individuals and hands turned around to make sure that nothing was following them, only to distinguish the mouth of an enormous pterodactyl coming their way.
To quicken their pace, Kenna's hand gently pushed Gray's back forwards, letting him know that they had to hurry as the three of them charged through the streets to get to the nearest building for shelter. Zach seemed to notice the pterodactyl too, as he kept glancing behind him in terror. Soon, one of the pterodactyl's massive wings broke one of the support beams on one of the many shops in Jurassic World, causing the building to start falling to pieces around them.
"Jump!" Kenna ordered and Gray, Zach and Kenna flew forwards, hurdling out of the way of the wreck. Sparks of electricity flew around the building, sending the pterodactyl surging forward, a lot of the building collapsing around it. As soon as they could get on our hands and knees, the three of them shuffled back towards the building behind them, as closely as they possibly could. It scratched the skin on their hands and knees but they scuttled their way to the wall of the building anyway, only to see the pterodactyl's body following them.
Kenna grabbed Gray, enfolding him with her body, shielding him, and Zach practically threw his entire body in front of Kenna. She clamped her eyes shut, her lips trembling in fear as Kenna held a quivering Gray in her arms, comforted only by Zach's arm around her body. When Kenna felt nothing happening, she risked a glimpse at the pterodactyl. As if by a miracle, the pterodactyl had come to a stop half a metre away from us, its mouth almost touching them. Kenna's chest heaved, out of breath from the running and jumping, and she allowed herself a second to just sit there, letting herself be surrounded by Zach and Gray.
"We have to get up," Kenna sighed, agreeing with Zach and allowing him to help her and Gray up. "C'mon, you heard Zara. Aunt Claire is looking for us." He added, mostly for Zach and they inched away from the pterodactyl, deciding to go in another direction entirely. Kenna spotted a few officials from the park and subsequently saw a woman in a white, unruly outfit knock a pterodactyl off of a man using a long, slender gun. This woman happened to have very familiar red hair. Then, once the pterodactyl was off of the man's body, she aimed the gun at the pterodactyl and shot it four times in a row.
Kenna's eyes widened at the sight of it, and Zach, Gray and Kenna came to a complete stop. "Is that Aunt Claire?" Zach inquired rhetorically, a strange emotion noticeable in his tone. Claire helped the man up with one arm and, after a moment, was pulled into a long, passionate kiss by him. Kenna raised an eyebrow at this, and Gray and Zach's expressions suddenly went blank.
It was then that Claire noticed the three of them, and her appearance immediately turned from conflict to absolute relief. She shrieked all of their names as she ran towards them, her heels still perfectly intact and then grabbed Gray's shoulders. "Oh thank god, thank god!" she kept repeating over and over again as she looked the three of them over. "What happened?" Claire demanded, referring to the cuts and dirt all over them as she looked at Gray, softly taking his face in her hands. "What is this, are you okay?" Kenna, Gray and Zach remained silent, still stunned by everything that they had seen. "Where did you go?" she then asked, looking at all of them in turn, trying to figure everything out. "Why didn't you come back?! Oh, I was so worried about you three-"
"Who's that?" Zach interjected, looking behind Claire and at the man who she had kissed, who was then standing a few metres behind her. She glanced back at him suddenly realising that they had seen their very cosy exchange as she tried to explain herself.
"We work together," Claire said modestly as if that explained everything. Zach raised an eyebrow at the vague clarification, looking at the man, almost sizing him up. This small action made Kenna smile, despite herself."Hey," the man said, holding a gun in his hand and a brooding, serious expression. "We gotta go." He added, and Claire bobbed her head in a nod.
"Okay, c'mon." Claire ushered us over, grabbing Zach and Gray by the shoulder and leading the three of them to wherever she deemed they needed to be. Almost immediately, Claire grabbed her phone and started dialling as Zach, Gray and Kenna tried to keep up with Claire and the other officials while they manoeuvred around the people. Kenna couldn't hear most of what Claire was saying, but the gist of it was: "Lowery, I'm on my way back to you." that, she heard loud and clear.
"Hey," Zach said, capturing Kenna's attention as they followed Claire and a man that we had been told was named Owen. "You okay?" he asked, clearly concerned. Kenna shook my head, deciding, to be honest with him as they all came to a stop as Claire listened to the person on the phone. Kenna heard a helicopter overhead and Zach frowned at her, squeezing her hand gently. There was nothing he could have said that would have made Kenna feel better, anyway. She was glad for the small sign of comfort and squeezed his hand back just as tightly.
Claire frowned as she listened to the person on the other side of the phone. "What do you mean, 'use the raptors'?" she spat out into the phone, plugging her left ear to try and hear the person on the phone better.
Owen came to a stop, suddenly irritated. "Son of a bitch." He swore as the helicopter flew overhead, making the noise even more unbearable.
"You shouldn't say 'bitch'." Gray reminded Owen, his eyes trained on the helicopter as Zach's jaw tightened.
"Take the kids." Owen ignored Gray's comment, now speaking to Claire. "Get them someplace safe." He added, just as loud knocking sounds came from the gates that kept the public out. They all turned their heads to face the sounds, curious and saw that the gate was starting to admit defeat. Immediately, they turned and started running to the Mercedes that was parked near us, and soon, the sound of petrified screams and yells filled Kenna's ears.
They reached the Mercedes and got in quickly, slamming the doors shut behind us as Kenna climbed over Gray to get into the middle seat. It was probably the least safe seat in the car, and she didn't want Gray to be in it. "You got this!" Zach told Owen as he tried to back away from the people and the large pterodactyl.
"Go faster!" Gray and Kenna were shouting instead, going for a different approach.
"Damn it, drive!" Zach yelled and soon, they were out of the way of all of the running people, parked towards the side as they saw the people run past the car. "This does not feel safe," Zach stated and Kenna nodded her head, agreeing with him.
"Can we stay with you?" Gray added, and Kenna looked hopefully at Owen in the driver's seat.
"I am never leaving you as long as you live," Claire replied immediately, turning to face us with a determined look on her angled face.
"No, no, him." Gray, Zach and Kenna chorused, all pointing at Owen in the driver's seat. Claire looked mildly offended, but they hadn't felt safe at all until Owen got them into of safety. Claire hadn't done much to make us feel safe at all.
"Yeah, definitely him," Owen added quietly.
