Finally we arrived at Pixie Hollow, the fairies passing by would greet us cheerfully before resuming their work. Tinker Bell, seeing us enter, flew down gleefully and hugged my father's cheek. He smiled at her and said hello.
“Hi Peter, it's nice to see you. And you Kaytee.” she chimed, and my mother nodded and smiled. Because of the amount of dust running through my veins, I was born with the gift to hear fairies. Tink turned to me and beamed.
“Sammy! Oh, look how big you've gotten!” she exclaimed and hugged my cheek. I chuckled as she let go, making a few more remarks before she had to go back to 'tinkering'. I looked over to my parents and saw them talking to the Healers. Mom was nodding as the three fairies spoke, though they were too far away for me to hear.
I thought it curious because they never did tell us why we came to Pixie Hollow in the first place. Maybe I'd ask later. I watched as Tink flew by but stopped and flew over to Dad, saying goodbye. He smiled and said something, and she tugged at his hair. He laughed and playfully swatted her away. I wonder what it would be like to have my own fairy. I looked around, wondering which one would be mine. Three females flew by, flirtingly waving and smiling.
Definentaly a girl.
But which one? Amanda let go of my hand and skipped over to the other kids, but I hung back, walking around and looking at what all the fairies were doing. I watched as a group of fairies threw some water into the air, flying through it at fast speeds, turning it into mist. Then in a flash, two fairies threw something shiny at the water, and it wasn't until the water turned into a brilliant rainbow that I realised they were holding sunlight.
I clapped my hands and they bowed and high-fived each. Moving on to the animal fairies, I saw a few painting the colors on the butterflies and ladybugs. I watched closely, the tiny wooden paintbrushes creating smooth strokes and loops. I gave a thumbs up to a fairy who had just finished painting the most beautiful bug I had ever seen and I was about to compliment her when a sound caught my attention.
“No! No, don't fly away yet, you're not finished!” a small voice exclaimed irritably. My eyes searched for the source and landed on a young female fairy trying to hold onto a half-painted-butterfly's leg. The insect slipped from her grasp, sending her flopping backwards as she fell with a tiny thud.
I quickly flew over and grabbed the small butterfly in the palm of my hand, being careful not to brush the wings too much. The bug inside my closed hands tried to pry it's way out but failed miserably.
“Now now, don't be so stubborn, Mister Butterfly. All she has to do is paint your other wing and then you're free to go. But only if you cooperate. No flying away, ya hear me? I'm gonna let you go, but if you try anything smart, I'll just catch you again.” I said gently and the fluttering stopped. Satisfied, I lowered my clasped hands infront of the fairy who was watching in awe. I hesitantly opened my hands, the butterfly stepping obediently back onto the painting pedestal. The fairy recovered and mouthed 'thank you' before picking her paint brush back up.
I nodded pulling out a tree stump to sit on and quietly watched her finish the bug. She,the fairy, had long, french braided black hair that ended under her waist, her brown eyes framed by thick short lashes in the same color. Tiny freckles dotted her pixy nose that all fairies had, standing out on her lightly tanned skin. Her cheeks were splattered with paint from the insects she was coloring, her dark blue over-alls covered the same way. They ended just above her knees, the cuffs rolled up in a rushed fashion. She tugged at the sleeve of her brown T-shirt she wore underneath, a thoughtful expression on her face as she observed her work.
“Alright, I think that's good, you're free to g-” but she didn't even finish before the butterfly gleefully took off, flying eagerly over to the opening between two trees. She sighed.
“You welcome.” she muttered in the general direction in which the butterfly vanished. I chuckled at her sarcasm, making her head snap up to look at me.
“ You did a great job on that one.” I praised with a smile. She blushed and looked down, gathering up her brushes and paint.
“Thank you. If it wasn't for your help, I would've lost him.” she said greatfully. I shrugged, handing her a paint brush she almost missed.
“You're welcome.”
“I could've used your help last week, we had a whole new batch of ladybugs come in. What's your name?”she asked, slinging a brown satchel over her shoulder that contained all her things.
“Sammy Pan. And you?” I asked holding out a finger for her to shake. Her eyes widened and she hesitantly grasped the tip of my finger.
“Delilah, but everyone calls me Deedee. So you're Peter Pan's son?” she asked in awe. I shrugged again and nodded. She grinned.
“That's so cool! I've always wanted to meet you! I heard that he had a kid, but never thought I'd get to meet him!” she exclaimed happily and I laughed. She flew up in my face, briefly blinding me. Her eyes prodded my face, studying closely.
“Yep, I see some Peter in there. You have his eyes, jaw line, brow, and...lips? I don't know, those might be your mom's...” she trailed off thoughtfully. I smirked.
“Checking out my lips, are we?” Her cheeks flamed with redness as she stuttered for words. I laughed again and caught her as she almost fell out of the air.
“Chill, Deedee, I'm just kidding.” She sighed and rolled her eyes, reminding me of my mom. Oh yeah! We're going to the Indians later...
“Hey Deedee, wanna go visit the Indians with me and my family? I'm sure my parents won't mind.” I offered. She perked up and nodded, a smile growing on her face.
“I've always wanted to visit the Indians! I'd love to, thanks Sammy.” she said, before flying up and resting on my shoulder. I smiled and walked towards the rest of the kids who were gathering around as my parents beckoned.
“Okay guys, it's time to head to the Indian grounds.” We all cheered, even Deedee. I noticed Amanda glaring at her before stalking up to me.
“Who's this?” she asked with a eerily fake smile. Well that's weird...
“This is Delilah, my new fairy friend, but you can call her Deedee.” I said as she waved to Amanda who just huffed and turned around stomping up to front of the line. Confusion swept across my face and I glanced down at Deedee. We looked at each other for a second before shrugging in unison as I followed everyone to the tribe.
