Chapter 20

"I'll get the suitcases," Daniel tells me, making me smile slightly. Macy is asleep in my arms, exhausted from the flight.

"How are we getting to your apartment?" I ask as Daniel comes back with our suitcases.

"A taxi. I asked Max to pick us up, but he's home with his parents," Daniel says, sounding apologetic, though I don't really know why.

"That's okay. Let's go home then," I say, making Daniel smile as I say 'home'.

"Yeah, let's go," he says and we walk out of the airport. Daniel gets us a taxi and puts in our suitcases with the help of the taxi driver. I get in the bag with Macy and Daniel soon joins me. He tells the driver his address and then we're off. For some reason, I feel nervous. I've never been to Daniel's apartment and I have no idea what it looks like. I didn't really register that much the last time I was here, as I was drunk and busy kissing Daniel. And I'm gonna live there. The drive to Daniel's apartment, fortunately, isn't that long and before I know it, the driver pulls over.

"You go upstairs, I'll bring the suitcases up," Daniel says after we both get out. I wait for Daniel to get the suitcases as I have no idea where to go. I mean, the last time I was here was years ago and I was drunk. Daniel goes upstairs and I follow him closely with Macy on my arm, who has fallen asleep again after waking up during the drive.

"Is it weird that I'm nervous?" I ask Daniel as he gets out his key.

"No, not at all. This is gonna be your home and you've never seen it. Okay, once. But you were drunk and you were busy with other things," Daniel says, making me chuckle.

"Oh, I remember that."

"But if there's anything you really don't like, you can change it, okay?"

"Thank you."

"So, welcome to your new home."

Daniel has given me a tour of his, our apartment. Macy's room is princess themed and pink, 2 of her favorite things. She was too tired to be excited though and fell asleep in her new bed. Daniel has shown me the entire apartment, except for 2 rooms. Our bedroom and someone other room. I don't know what kind of room it is, but there's one more door other than the one to our bedroom.

"So, what do you want to see first? Our room or the other room?" Daniel asks.

"Let's do the other room first," I say, very curious to see what the other room is.

"Alright," Daniel says and he walks to one of the two doors. When he opens it and let me in, I'm a little surprised by what I see.

"The spare room," I say, a little disappointed. I was expecting something special, not the spare bedroom where we can store some extra stuff.

"Yeah, it's the spare room now. But in a few weeks, it'll be something else."

"What will it be then?"

"A room for our baby," Daniel says and instantly, tears appear in my eyes. I walk around a little, trying to imagine what the room will look like when it's finished. There are so many possibilities.

"And? Do you like it?" Daniel asks and I nod, not able to speak. I quickly walk over to him and hug him tightly.

"Thank you," I whisper, not knowing what else to say.

"There's one more room though, do you want to see it?"

"Our bedroom."

"Yeah, follow me," Daniel says as he takes my hand. He leads me to the final door in the house and smiles nervously before opening the door. I walk inside and look around.

"This is really nice!" I say, smiling at Daniel. I don't really know why he seems so nervous, there's nothing wrong with the bedroom.

"Look again, I don't think you saw."

"Saw what?" I ask as I look around again. I gasp as I spot something on the bed, by the pillows. It's only small, but now that I see it, it seems impossible I didn't notice it before. A small black box. I turn around to face Daniel, to have him confirm that this is real.

"Lydia, I hope this isn't too soon," Daniel says as he walks to the bed. He takes the small box of the bed and walks to me, taking one of my hands in is.

"No, no, it's just, unexpected."

"The moment I saw you on the grid in Austin, I knew you were something special. I just didn't realize how special just yet. But I knew I had to ask you out, so I did. Slowly I started to discover more and more of you and I realized how special you were and how amazing you were. It wasn't until I found out about Macy that I fully understood how much you mean to me. Because, all those years ago, during that crazy night, I already felt a connection with you. And in the back of my mind, even if I didn't want to admit it, I knew that somehow, we'd find our way back to each other. And now here we are, with a beautiful daughter and another beautiful baby on its way. I wouldn't want it any other way. There is just one thing missing."

"What?"

"A ring on your finger," Daniel says as he opens the small black box. Inside is a beautiful ring. I gasp as tears appear in my eyes. Daniel gets down on one knee and looks up, straight into my eyes.

"Oh my gosh," I whisper, not believing this is actually happing.

"Lydia, I know this might be fast and I know we've got a long way to go. But I also know that I don't want to go that way with anyone else. Whatever life throws our way, we'll figure it out, together. So, will you make me the happiest man on this planet and marry me?"

"Yes," I say without hesitation, making Daniel smile widely. He gets up and puts the ring on my finger before kissing me passionately.

"I love you."

"I love you too."

"Welcome home, my love."
