Light in the Park // Josh Dun x Reader

I'm sorry ive used this picture before i just love it, it's so funny.

~Josh's point of view~

I unplugged my phone and stood up from bed, dialing Tyler's number. I paced in my room while the phone rang and I heard tyler's voice on the other end.

"hey josh what's up?"

"hi tyler, you know how I've been talking to y/n a lot since I met them?"

"yeah, you never shut up about them either, are you dating yet?" he joked and I felt my palms sweat as I played with the hem of my shirt.

"no well that's the thing. I need your help, im gonna ask them to be my boy/girlfriend tomorrow, and im gonna set up the spot that we go to in the woods with fairy lights and streamers and play all the songs we danced to when we met out of the speakers and have uno and other board games that we played there as well as pancakes and pizza. And then that night I'd take them to the place in the park that we sat and watched the stars at and ask them there. Do you think Jenna can make pancakes tomorrow and you help me set up the place?" I ask him, nervous that my plan would be dumb.

"josh that's so sweet, of course, I think they'll love it, I really do, it's about time. I'll be at your place at 10 tomorrow."

"sick bro, thanks see ya then." I sighed and hung up the phone, the butterflies arising in my chest as I thought about tomorrow and pulled my shoes on before petting Spooky and standing up, pocketing my phone and jogging down the stairs.

I pushed the feelings away and got into my car, happily thinking about what songs to include on the playlist as I drove. I would definitely include all the panic! Songs that we listened to when we were cooking and all the songs that tyler wrote that they said they liked, also the new fall out boy song. Also, some Ed Sheeran and Mumford and Sons songs. I remembered that we kissed the first time when Collar Full was playing, I would bring the speaker with us when we went to the hill and when the song came on id ask them.

I pulled into the parking lot of a Walmart and parked my car. I got out and took out my phone as I hurried into the store. I opened the notes tab to look at the list I made.  I walked through the doors and grabbed a cart, rushing around the store.

"okay fairly lights, those are back here." I whispered to myself as I sped walked to the lights. I picked out two types, white ones that looked a bit like snow globes and multi colored flowers to accent them.

 

"perfect" I said, setting them in the cart and looking back to my phone. "lanterns must be around here somewhere." I sped through walmart pushing a cart who didn't want to go straight in frantic search of the lanterns and I ended up in the home décor section. "nope, nope, no, maybe, ew, no, eh, ooh, this one!" I said under my breath as I looked through all the paper lanterns. I chose a light blue one that I thought would complement the lights well.

They came in a box of 5 and didn't come with light bulbs so I read the box for the lightbulbs I needed and also saw that theyre battery powered. I set two boxes in the cart and went to find the lightbulbs in the next aisle over and the batteries.

"okay next," I sighed as I grabbed my phone and pulled up the list again. "streamers and flowers, the rest I need to pick up later." I smile and put my phone away, thinking about y/n as I skipped through the store. So I guess the streamers should match the lanterns and lights I think to myself as I stop the cart at the beginning of the aisle and grabbed a box of lanterns and opened it to get a lantern out. Now let's find a good match.

I walked down the aisle holding the lantern up to a variety of blue crepe paper streamers and couldn't find the right blue to match but a particular one caught my eye. Before me sat a shiny roll of golden streamers. Perfect, this is perfect!

I grabbed two rolls of the shiny things before running back to my cart and tossing everything into it. I sped walked as fast as I could with the damn crooked thing to the front of the store where the flowers were and found the forget-me-nots, the quaint little blue flowers were in small bundles and I grabbed a few to scatter around the clearing before heaving the cart over to the self check-out line.

I checked my watch, 11:07, and since it was so late no one was here and I strolled into the check-out with ease and bought all the items I picked out, stuffing them in bags before I high-tailed it out of there, excited to get home to make the playlist.
