Peta drove home, shaking, her mind clogged with thoughts, scary thoughts to be honest.
"He's going to hate me." She thinks as she pulls into the driveway.
Thanking her lucky stars, Peta parked her car in a garage with no trace of Maks being home, therefore she had some time to collect herself and her thoughts.
Just as she got inside and put on her pajamas, she heard the garage door open.
"Flip! He's home!" She scrambled under the covers and acted to be asleep, as if that could extend the time she didn't have to tell him what she's now learned.
"P? P, I'm home. Where are you?" Maks shouted around the home.
He panicked and ran upstairs.
He sighed in relief to find her in their room.
"Peta...Peta..." He shook her gently.
She pretended to wake up.
"Oh, hey, Babe."
"Hey." He kissed her forehead.
Peta quickly sat up and grasped onto Maks’s shoulders.
"Are you alright?"
She nodded, praying the wave of nausea would pass, but it wouldn't.
She quickly jumped up and went to the bathroom, Maks followed after her.
He held back her hair as she continued to get sick.
It had been going on for days, this sickness, he figured it was just the flu, but he didn't know the real reason.
But Peta did.
"P, are you okay?"
"Yeah, I feel okay."
"Okay, Babe." He gave her a kiss and helped her back to bed.
She was routinely sick that evening, causing Maks much concern.
"Peta, is there something you aren't telling me? You've never gotten this sick in your life!" He came up and sat next to her on the bed.
Tears began to slide down her face. She couldn't look at him.
"Peta, what is bothering you?"
She still didn't look.
"Babe, look at me! What is wrong?"
"Nothing, I'm just super tired."
"It's more than that."
"No, it isn't."
"Yes it is, P! I know you too well!"
"Promise me you won't leave when I tell you this."
Maks was slightly stunned at this request.
"P, I would never leave you. No matter what."
Before continuing, Peta ran off because she felt sick again, but ended up being okay.
"Now, tell me what's going on." Maks said softly as they sat back down.
Peta took Maks's hand and placed it on her stomach.
Worry spread over Maks's face.
"No."
She nodded.
"No."
Tears kept falling from Peta's eyes because his reaction scared her.
"No what?!"
"No! This can't be! You can't be..." He stammered and began pacing.
Peta kept nodding.
"I'm a father?!"
She nodded again.
"No...no...no...no!" He grabbed his coat
"You said you wouldn't leave me!"
"Yeah! That was before this!"
"You said no matter what!"
"That was before this!"
He left and slammed the door.
