Chapter 10- Broken

Liam's POV

We were going to be at the reception in a matter of minutes and I still hadn't worked up the courage to ask Emma about what she remembered, if she remembered anything at all.

I finally opened my mouth to ask her, but she beat me to it.

"So um Liam... why was I in your car this morning? We didn't... You know.." she trailed off.

"You wish." I said with a wink.

She rolled her eyes at me

"Ok, ok. We didn't do that." I said quickly after, "Well, not yet at least." I finished with another wink and wicked smirk.

I watched as relief flooded over her face and her body relaxed.

We stayed in silence for a few more minutes before I decided to ask.

"Emma, what do you remember from last night?"

"Umm, well I remember getting to the party?"

I think she meant it as a statement, but it came out sounding more like a question.

She looked down at her lap again before asking her next question.

"Why don't I remember anything?"

"This may come as a shocker to the perfect kids of the world, such as yourself, but when people drink a lot, they tend to get very drunk." I said with yet another smirk.

I smirk a lot, maybe I should find a new facial expression. Well, there's always next year for that.

"I was NOT drunk." She said with a big emphasis on the not and a quick roll of her eyes.

"Whatever you say princess." I said with a smile.

"Did you seriously just call me princess?"

"Yes princess, because you think nothing applies to you since you're one of the 'perfect children' that all parents wish for."

She opened her mouth, probably to give me some smartass comment, but the closed it just as quickly.

"Whatever." she mumbled quietly.

After a few more minutes of silence, we finally got to the reception.

I pulled the keys out of the ignition and quickly locked the car before she could get out.

She started tugging on the handle, trying to get out.

It started out as a joke, but she started to freak out.

Her breathing grew more rapid and she curled up into a small, delicate ball.

"I'm sorry I won't mumble anymore. Please don't hurt me." she whispered into her knees.

I leaned over to her and she flinched farther away.

"I will never hurt you." I said with the most sincerity that I had ever spoken with in my life.

She finally got out of her huddled position and brought her head up to look at me.

Her eyes still looked freaked out, but she looked straight into mine.

"Do you promise?" she asked, still looking into my eyes.

"Promise." I responded without hesitation.

How could anybody even think about hurting somebody as amazing and delicate as Emma.

Emma's POV

"Do you promise?" I asked, staring into his eyes.

He didn't miss a beat before responding.

"Promise."

I could see the sincerity in his eyes and I believed him and trusted him.

He was looking at me like a broken toy on the ground and I quickly turned away before my cheeks flooded red with embarrassment.

He was quick to unlock the car soon after that and I slipped out of the car, making my way towards the reception building.

Liam quickly caught up to me within seconds.

"C'mon princess, can you really stay mad at me?" he said with and apologetic smile.

I just rolled my eyes and put a joking smile on my still red face.

We walked through the double doors of the reception room and into the first section which was the bar and dancing.

I felt Liam's hand on the small of my back, but instead of flinching, I felt my body shiver.

He guided me to the hallway that led away from the bar and towards the room filled with a long white table and food.

"We don't need a repeat of last night." he said with a laugh as we got farther away from the bar.

I nodded my head towards him.

Ya, whatever last night was. Only one of us remembered what happened last night, and it wasn't me. Can't regret something you can't remember doing.

Once we got to the front of the room, we were shown a seating chart and found our seats.

My father and new step-mother were sitting in the front of the room.

Their wedding crowd was scattered around the room.

I was seated at a table next to Liam and my brother was seated at the table in front of us, next to a little girl.

After getting food, we all sat down and my father stood up, clanging a knife against his glass.

"I would like t-to make a toast to m-my beautiful new wife..." I toned out his already slurred words. Well this was going to be a night to remember.
