Update smokey had been ill for nearly a year he had diabetes. A month ago yesterday he was put down. (He died October 5) I got a kitten the same day, he's no smokey but I love him just a much. Rest in peace smokey, I love you forever and always, and random people who never even knew you on the internet love you too.

we got out of the car and approached the building, hand in hand. josh opened the door for me and i walked in, no matter how long i've been with him, which was now four months, i still havent gotten used to how nice the man was.

we linked fingers again as we waited at the counter. a lot of the people who worked at the vet clinic i worked here when they were off, and someone called out from behind an office door, "i'll be with ya in a second."

a lady with blonde hair walked out, looking down at some papers, "alright, how can i," she looked up, "oh, hi y/n! this must be joshua?" she asked and i looked over at josh who was blushing.

"yes, tanya this is josh, josh this is tanya," i said gesturing at the short blonde woman on the other side of the counter, the two shook hands. "actually, tanya, we was to look at some cats, we want another." i smiled and tanya raised her eyebrows at me, "well, y/n, you know where they are, when you find one you like just hollar and i'll be out." tanya smiled and hurried back into the office space, i assumed she was pretty busy, so i led josh around back to the adoptables.

there were so many adult cats there and only a few kittens, i felt bad, no one ever wants fully grown cats just because theyre fully grown. i sighed as pulled josh past the kittens, who he was constantly cooing at, and back to the rows of adult cat cages.

"no kittens, they'll find homes easier than the adults." i said and released my grip on josh's hand, "alright let's look."

i wandered down the aisle scanning over all the cats, wanting to take them all home, and once i got to the back i found one.

the name tag said Fluffy, and i cringed a bit at the name, but it also said that he was great with other cats, especially his friend Smokey, who was right next to him (im not lying, im on the rescue village website for cleveland and his best friend's name is smokey and im gonna cry). they were both very shy but once they adjusted to their surroundings, they were happy, together. i called josh over, and pointed at him, but he couldnt take his eyes off of smokey.

"josh" i whispered and poked his arm, "i think we need both of them."

and thats what we did, i called for tanya and she told us that they were both about 9 months old, and inseparable, she was glad to see them go together.

we drove home with two meowing cats in crates in the back seat and smiled at each other. "josh, i think we need to rename them, i mean, his name is Fluffy, i feel bad for him. smokey's is okay but, a bit boring." i shrugged as i pulled into the driveway, "yeah, let's bring them inside and lock jinx and spooky in our room with a litter box and food and stuff while we get these two boys adjusted," he said as he opened his door and we walked around to the back seat. josh grabbed smokey's crate and i grabbed fluffy's and we walked to the front door. we put the two crates down in the living room and put the other two cats in our room.

"i dont know about you, but i'm calling fluffy Crab Stick, (thats what i call Little, heres a picture of him, the first one I was squishing him and he was not happy)"

josh snorted as he watched the two boys timidly sniffing the couch and walk around the living room. "i'm gonna call smokey Beansprout." my jaw dropped and i looked at josh, "you cant make fun of my Crab Stick, if you're gonna call him Beansprout!" i said and play punched josh, who just wrapped me up in his arms and pushed me back on the floor that were were kneeling on moments before. he leaned down and kissed me, tenderly at first and i deepened it, our teeth clashing as we both smiled into it, neither of us could take it anymore and burst out laughing.

"Beansprout and Crab Stick it is," i said, looking up at josh, who just smiled down at me and kissed me again.
