Chapter 26: I Am A Weapon

 

“I escaped.” Ashley kept her answers short and simply.

 

“Really? How?” Isa asked, raising her eyebrow. Madi and Isa stared her down. They were challenging her. And right now, she wasn’t up for it. Seeing Charlie had made her forget she had things to do.

 

“Look, I don’t have time for this,” Ashley said, crossing her arms as well. “I thought maybe you guys could help me but...”

 

“Help with what?” Charlie asked, his interest spiking up. She considered not even answering him.

 

“The army I’m building,” she said, her eyes finally meeting his. She wondered if he still hated her. If she was him, she would still hate her.

 

“Why are you building an army?” Isa asked, before smirking. “Aren’t you just Shane’s helpless little girlfriend?”

 

Ashley glared at her. She walked right up to her until Ashley was standing only a few feet away.

 

“Just for your information,” Ashley started, her voice low and dangerous. “I’m a trained assassin. And I don’t like the way you’re looking at me right now.”

 

Isa didn’t say anything and Ashley backed up.

 

“We don’t trust people that easily,” Johnny replied, seeing as Charlie just stared at her.

 

“I can see that,” Ashley commented. “Which means we’re done here.” She turned and started to walk away. She was getting away, Charlie thought. Again.

 

Hailey and Shay followed her and soon she disappeared into the trees.

 

“Ashley!” Charlie suddenly called out to her. He took a step closer but Johnny grabbed his arm.

 

He looked at his older brother and back to the girl walking away. Ashley didn’t show any signs of hearing him, but he knew she did.

 

“Let go man,” Charlie said, trying to pull away from Johnny’s grip. But he shook his head.

 

“No, you aren’t going after her. You’re staying and explaining what the hell that was about.” Johnny never spoke to Charlie that way. And he didn’t like it.

 

“I don’t have to explain shit to you,” Charlie snapped. They were getting an audience, but both of them didn’t even notice.

 

“Oh really?” Johnny laughed harshly. “You just threw away every rule you made us follow for some girl and you expect me to just forget it?”

 

Charlie didn’t respond right away.
