"It was a long day that day... I had just left school. I was 5 years old when my dad picked me up from school. It was an oddity, that he was picking me up - but I ignored it. Sometimes mom was sick and he needed to pick me up, no big deal. Yet... He had a grim look on his face, very..." She trailed off a little as she spoke, but shook her head, continuing, " Very disgraced... I didn't know how to say anything right so I asked immediately,"
"Hey daddy, what's wrong with your face? You look pale!" She began to stumble on her words, her heart pounded, "That's when he hit me."
U-Kwon's eyebrows creased, a look of pure worry in his eyes as he noticed a tear roll down her cheek, "Why did he hit you sweetie?"
She wiped her cheek with the back of her hand, sniffling, "I-uh, I asked him the wrong way, he said. He said that I didn't deserve to know now and he took me home. When we got there though... Momma wasn't there. And I don't mean like, she left a note and went to the store, I mean, the house was dead silent - even the TV was off."
She cried a little harder as she spoke, "I found out she died a week later. I pestered him every day, asking 'where's mom? Where's mom?' but he always told me to go play. I never did... I never did play though..."
"Sweetie, you don't have to tell me if it hurts to much..." U-Kwon put his hand to hers to comfort her.
"No, no... I've bottled it up long enough."
"A-Are you sure?"
"Mhmm..." She nodded, "But anyways... He hit me when he finally told me. Screaming about how it's my fault she died, since... Since she was driving to get my lunch for school..." She sulked a little bit, her body almost, giving up as she spoke.
"You know it's not your fault, right?"
"Well... I try to tell myself that and I don't know if it always works and - "
"It's not your fault. I promise."
"O-Okay.." She stammered, and continued, "So, basically... For 12 years now, my dad..." Her throat clenched, "my dad, has been using me as my mother..."
"What do you mean?"
"I... I was like his wife. I was his sexual interest, I was..." She burst into a waterfall of tears, her emotions overcoming her. "I never told anyone that! Please don't tell! P-Please don't tell!" She cried out, her voice whining.
"Shh, shh..." He immediately pulled her to her chest, stroking her chest. She flinched, but then clung to him, "It's okay sweetie... I'm here, okay?"
She nodded, her face contorted into the utmost fear as she had flashbacks to her father. She cried loudly, but slowly collected it to a somewhat quiet heaving of breaths. U-Kwon held her tight, stroking her hair gently, "It's okay... " He cooed, "I won't let him near you if he ever tries to find you..."
"P-Promise?" She sputtered, looking up at him with blood shot eyes. They were glossed with fresh tears, her bottom lip quivering.
"I swear on my own life. If he looks for you, he's gotta go through me first." He gave a reassuring smile, nodded at his promise. He rubbed her shoulder, squeezing her before slowly letting her regain her position in her chair.
"Thanks.." She sniffled, rubbing her nose with the apron she was still wearing.
He merely smiled, "Anytime... Is there, uh, anything else you'd like to say?"
"There's loads... But one crying fest is enough for now..."
"Heh, okay." He laughed lightly, and placed his hand to hers on the table, "I'll be here for you... I'll do my best to always be here too. None of this 'I'm busy' stuff from me, I'll give you my full attention."
"Thank you..."
"Chin up, we care about you here!"
"Zico sure doesn't...."
"You'd be surprised, Minseo. I bet I could get him to turn off the angry side of himself. He's like a father most of the time," He then cautiously said, "A good father."
She nodded, pursing her lips into a soft smile. Her cheeks were red and puffy, but they were slowly gaining their normal color.
"I hope so..."
