"I have an outfit I designed a year ago for an old worker..." Jaehyo rummaged through the closet in his studio, "She was about your size, but she left before she could even wear it..." He frowned. Finding it, he pulled it out and pushed it up to her body, "Perfect."
Placing it in her hands, he smiled, "Go try it on."
She nodded, looking at the outfit thinking it would look weird on her.
Stepping out from the fitting room, Jaehyo gasped in excitement, clapping his hands together, "It looks perfect on you!"
The outfit Included a red, white, and blue vest that was above a white dress shirt and red tie. She wore black shorts and black polka-dot pantyhose. She smiled a little, enjoying the outfit. She spun around, "You think so?"
"I know so!" He smiled, a specific twinkle in his eye that seemed that of a young child. He looked her up and down, "here, I have boots you can wear. I want you to wear it now!" Scrambling for the shoes, he found them and she put them on, happiness flooding her at Jaehyo's reaction. He seemed like he'd just got his first toy that he ever wanted. He smiled, bouncing in his stance, squealing a little with excitement.
"Go show everyone! C'mon!" He grabbed her hand, leading her back to the building.
As she stepped in, she quirked a brow with a grin, "What do you guys think?"
"Whoa, Minseo you look great!" Pyo was flabbergasted, standing from his seat. Everyone circled around her, smiling at her outfit, "Thank Jaehyo." She merely smiled.
U-Kwon was the last to join the circle, a smirk on his face as he looked her directly in the eye, "You look great." He mouthed, his voice barely audible. she blushed a little, glancing away but back at him.
Everyone stared in awe at Minseo, and she begin to giggle, "Stop oogling! I'm 17 remember?"
Clearing their throats, they backed up a little, laughing as they did so.
"So you really like it?" Jaehyo chimed in, excited.
"Of course!" They replied.
Minseo smiled to herself, maybe she could grow used to this place... Everyone had good intentions, they wished no ill on others. She didn't think she'd be able to tell them about her past for a long while though, besides U-Kwon - but he's different.
She looked at Jaehyo, "So do I take this off? So I can wear it tomorrow?"
Jaehyo nodded, excited, "Yes, yes! Of course, let's have you wear it tomorrow." Clapping his hands together, he led her back to his studio for her to change back into her clothes.
"I'll need to make you some night clothes, I bet sleeping in that isn't the most comfortable thing..."
"Well, yeah, but I can deal with it for now." She pursed her lips into a smile, changing into her other clothes in the bathroom. As she stepped out, she handed Jaehyo the clothes. He nodded in thanks, and went off to put them away.
"Well, goodnight." He said, ushering her out of his room. She left slightly confused, "Good night."
It was pretty early to be sleeping, but she shrugged - it was his business not hers. Walking back to the building, Minseo hummed a tune, her voice slightly dainty and elegant. She soon began to sing more than hum, lyrics pouring out of her lips as her voice filled the eery silence of the circus grounds.
"It’s dark and I can’t see
I put out my hand but only the wind clashes
I don’t know why but this place is strange
I’m getting used to this misery
I live like a shadow"
Zico burst out of the room, "Who is that singing?" He looked around, almost uneasiness in his eyes. She abruptly stopped mid-lyric, sucking in a scared breath, shattering the comfort of the night back to it's eery silent state.
"Was it you?" He stared at her, his eyes piercing her. She shook her head, nervous as to if it was bad for her to sing, "N-No..."
"It was! Don't lie." Zico stepped closer, pointing a finger.
"Zico what the hell are you doing?" B-Bomb stepped outside, "We can hear you in here! What's wrong?"
"She's lying to us." Zico growled, still staring at her.
"Lying?" Her face contorted into anger, "You scared me all because I'm singing! Can you blame me? I haven't lied yet! You... You're the one wanting me to stay! You're the one wanting my lottery ticket!" Her voice began to whine as she started to cry out of anger, "It's not my fault your stupid circus isn't successful! I just want a new life and even you can't provide that, can you, Ringleader?"
Zico's nostrils flared and he held back his urge to argue as to let her finish.
"I just want a new home! You don't know anything about me!" Her voice was almost at a shriek and by now everyone was outside.
"Sweetie..." U-Kwon stepped forward, reaching a hand toward her to comfort her. She bat his hand away, "No!" She shook her head, "I don't want to be here anymore!"
"Look..." U-Kwon cooed, "I'm not here to scare you..."
She whimpered as she cried loudly, shaking her head as she stepped away. "Just let me go! I don't want the stupid ticket anyway I'll beg for money if I have to!"
Zico sighed, "Stop, stop... It's okay..." He looked at her, an intense stare still glued to her.
"Yea, now it is - since you need a lackey!" She held back tears but failed.
"I... I'm sorry. I'm sorry okay?" Zico thrust his hands in the air then back at his sides, "I don't know what to say... I over reacted I know, I'm sorry. I just, I missed that voice. There was a girl who worked here, a long while ago... She sounded just like you..."
"So?" She retorted.
"I loved her. Hearing your voice was a stricken reminder of her death... It's no excuse," He shook his head, sighing, "I just... I over reacted and I should be the one upset here - not you."
Her expression changed to innocence, "She... She died?"
Zico nodded, "When she went in the dunk tank, for part of her show after singing... She drowned..."
"Didn't you try to get her out - ?"
"Of course I did! I wanted her safe, but I was discussing business with someone... And I wasn't near the show at the time. Pyo came running to t-tell me-e...." His voice began to weaken and trail off. Pyo, who stood behind him, put a hand to his shoulder, showing his support. Everyone was silent, not even their breathing was loud.
"I was too late... I held her limp body, just, just wishing she would open those beautiful eyes again."
"I..." She stammered, "I'm sorry, Zico..."
"It's not your fault," He rubbed his nose with the back of his hand, "It's only mine for not being there to know it wasn't part of the show... Her screams." He looked down.
"I'll tell you my past..." She murmured in reply, "I want you to know now."
Zico looked up from the ground at her, "N-No... I don't want you telling me out of pity, sweetie."
"I want to tell you." She said sternly. U-Kwon sighed a little, pursing his lips into a soft smile, "You sure, sweetie?" He whispered. Nodding, she looked at him, "I'm sure."
B-Bomb and Jaehyo changed from their tensed stance to a relieved position. Taeil and Kyung whispered to each other, worried for Zico. They knew Zico never even allowed them to ever discuss her... Let alone ask him anything. They were worried for how he was going to respond to her past - whatever it was.
"It's cold out here..." he mumbled, "Let's uh, let's go inside where we can talk more."
