Cisco

Caitlin and Joe are talking about things that I'd rather not think about—like whether it will be me or Barry getting the prisoners to talk. While they decide, I take a closer look at our prisoners. It's pretty obvious what Caitlin and Joe are planning, but not one of the three shows any sign of fear.

In the leftmost cell is Greg. He's standing on one foot, leaning against the wall. Either he's very strong and playing himself down to surprise us, or—more likely—it hasn't occurred to him not to show weakness. I've finally placed why he reminds me of Joe. They have almost nothing in common, but I can see where his gun rests: the same place as a police officer, which he must be.

In the middle cell is John. He's standing tall and looking straight ahead with his arms rigid by his sides like a soldier. He meets my eyes. We are trying to intimidate them, so I do my part and hold his gaze. I make a fist and let sound waves humm off of it, creating what looks like a shield made of concentric circles. He jerks slightly. I recall how he warned me about the control panel. He must've set off something and gotten blasted, so now he's remembering that.

The one that I'm really interested in, though, is in the rightmost cell. He's stood up, and is sweeping his eyes over me. Somehow, he makes me feel like I'm the one in the cell and he's going to torture me. He got blasted by more electricity than I've seen in a long time, but he isn't showing any of the massive amount of pain he must be feeling. I know that pain makes people more easily startled—as John demonstrated—so I let the shield grow until I'm literally emitting shockwaves that are slamming against his cell door. He doesn't even flinch but catches my eyes and smiles. His smile reminds me of a shark circling its prey.

I wonder how he can do all this and is still not a meta. I suppose he might be similar to Oliver...Circumstances made him stronger.

Their vibrational frequency is so high—around 350—so high that I wonder if they have metas at all on their world. The term metas won't mean anything to them, so I stumble over my sentence, "Do you have...superheroes...in your world?"

John

First, I think Cisco is playing at scary. Then he clenches his fist and shockwaves seem to radiate from it. They're the same ones that came out of the control panel. Then the shockwaves grow until he is radiating blast waves in the direction of Sherlock's cell. I have to stop myself from glancing his way since I know that would be an obvious sign of weakness.

Then, Cisco changes directions entirely and asks if we have superheroes. Sherlock and Greg say no. Trying hard not to smile, I say, "Actually, we do have one."

I can hear Greg's smile as he says, "William Sherlock Scott Holmes. Our superhero."

Sherlock replies, "Oh, please."

Now I start smiling. I can't help myself. "Didn't you say something like, 'John, there's no such thing as heroes, and if there were I wouldn't be one of them'?"

"'Don't make people into heroes, John. Heroes don't exist, and if they did I wouldn't be one of them.'"

Cisco interrupts our little banter, "Okay, but what's his superpower?"

You know that feeling where you look a friend in the eye and you know they're thinking the same thing you are? I can't see Greg, but I can feel that same feeling as we both simultaneously reply, "Being a dick."

Now I'm smiling full out, and Cisco is smiling this impish grin that makes me immediately like him. It also makes me sure he'll try his best to not hurt us.

Then Joe comes up behind him and says, "We have a problem. I don't think you or Barry would like to hurt your new friends, so who will? I can't, I'm not a meta."

Cisco looks over and replies immediately, "The Arrow."
