They never went to parties. They didn't know if it was because they were never invited, or if the thought of being stupid and surrounded by hormonal teenagers scared the shit out of them. But either way, for some reason this weekend the entire group had been talked into going to one.
So, hear they stood Mike and El outside of the crowded party nerves showing on both of their faces, as the rest of the group laughed and joked about how drunk Dustin would get.
"I'm not going to get drunk," Dustin had argued back, but they all knew he would.
"Hey, are you okay," El felt Mike breathe down her neck, goosebumps formed on her skin at the slight contact. She thought it was weird how the small gesture relaxed her more than any type of alcohol or drug ever would.
She nodded her head up at him, a small reassuring smile tugged at her lips as she grasped his hand tighter in hers. The 6 of them began their journey to the front door, the loud rock music vibrated through the house when they stepped in.
El took notice in the aroma in the air, smelling like booze and pure sex, she scrunched her nose up at it as they walked further into the warm house. The temperature rising with each step they took.
"Do you want to get a drink," Max had pulled El with her to the kitchen without an answer. Leaving behind a stunned Mike with the rest of their friends, he looked like a lost puppy.
El noticed how Max acted a little different, she had been distant from the group for a couple of weeks, making excuses when she didn't hang out with them. She also noticed how Lucas and she weren't exactly talking at the moment.
"Hey...are you alright," El asked when Max started moving around the kitchen grabbing red solo cups, and alcohol. Max didn't say anything at first, but El could've sworn that she saw her brows furrow in sadness as she turned around to give her an answer.
"Yeah, why wouldn't I be," she pulled a fake smile, pushing the drink into El's hand and walking back towards the small hallway.
"I know you're lying...Friends don't lie," Eleven caught up to her, grasping her shoulder and pulling the line that lucas had once taught her years ago.
"You wouldn't understand, you and Mike have been in love with each other since you were 12. Okay, you haven't had to deal with these types of issues," Max exclaimed, her fists clenching slightly by her side. El could tell the red head was stressed about something.
"You never know, me and Mike have dealt with shit too," El explained, trying to reassure Max.
Max stayed silent but finally gave in, probably just in need to let it all out.
"He doesn't know how to commit. I mean we've been off and on for years and he still doesn't trust me enough for a relationship, it really pisses me off," Max sighed out in frustration.
"Have you told him this," Eleven asked, leaning her body against the wall, bringing the cup up to her lips smelling the strong smell of vodka, she took a small sip anyway. Pulling her brows together when it burned her throat slightly.
"Not exactly," Max rolled her eyes.
"Then tell him, if not then you'll spend the rest of senior year being a "friend" to him," El continued taking small sips, she didn't know why.
Max nodded slightly, giving El a quick hug and then quickly darted back to the crammed living room.
"Hey...I finally found you," She heard Mike, seeing as he shifted sideways to get past two people currently pressed against one another, making out.
