Michael's POV
"How are you so attractive?" Megan laughs as she fixes my tie, softly placing my hands on my chest.
"How come you refused coming to watch us perform tonight?" I counter, looking down at her slightly since I'm taller. She bites her lip, giving me an innocent look.
"You know who's going to be there. She brings out the absolute worst in me," she frowns, slowly fluttering her eyelashes.
"We could've made sure you didn't talk to her," I tell her, but she just shrugs.
"But now you can have some quality time with the guys," she tries to find a valid point.
"They're all bringing their girlfriends," I let her know. I can see she's trying to think of something quick in her head.
"Oh well," she sighs as she can't think of anything.
"If I had asked you to be my date to this, would you have come with me?" I ask her.
"Yeah," she tells me without a doubt, confidence oozing in her tone.
"Then, will you be my date?" I ask, confusing her.
"There isn't enough time Michael," she breathes, and I raise an eyebrow.
"There's thirty minutes before we need to leave. That's enough time," I let her know.
"I have nothing to wear," she murmurs, making me look at her like she's insane.
"You're a model. You have at least seventy designer dresses in your closet," I convince her. She sighs, but obliges.
---
"I told you it was doable," I tell her as soon as she walks out of her room looking like she took hours on getting ready. She is wearing a long blue dress with her hair tied up in a bun. In all, she looks like a modern Cinderella.
"I didn't believe you," she laughs, taking a hold of my hand.
"I have to go say bye to Mason. I'll be right back," I let her know. She nods before looking into my eyes, wrapping her arms around my shoulders. I rest my hands on her waist as she goes on her tip toes, slowly connecting our lips.
She moves her hands to the back of my hair, and we start to have a full on make out session in the hallway. She ends up pushed against the wall as she pulls me closer.
"Dad?" a small, trembling voice asks. I separate from the kiss to see Mason standing in the hallway. He is wearing his dinosaur pajamas with his hair all messy. He looks completely crushed as if everything just got taken out of him.
"Mason," I respond, jogging over to him. He slowly blinks, tears brimming in his eyes.
"I'll get in the car. Good luck," Megan tells me before heading down the stairs.
"Why were you kissing Megan? You can only kiss Brynn," he sadly interrogates me.
"Buddy, there's something I need to tell you," I sigh, about to drop a major truth bomb.
"Brynn isn't coming back from vacation is she?" he whimpers.
"No she isn't. I'm sorry buddy," I tell him softly. He starts crying, holding onto me for support.
"Is she gone or is she gone gone?" he asks carefully, holding my face to look at me in the eyes. Just seeing him like this makes me want to cry.
