Chapter 13 - Belt Test Blunders

Start from the beginning

"Well, if you insist. Virgil was always one to become anxious at the slightest things. It didn't matter if it was logical or not because many things put him on edge. I've always been one to calm him down. Patton hasn't even comforted Virgil as much as I have due to the fact that Virgil bottles up his emotions. I started talking to him, and after a while, it became a habit. We frequently have many long conversations in the extremely late evening. Virgil is not one who is known to sleep. Many nights, you might hear us talking. It's honestly comforting, especially since I've begun to feel emotion as well. It's all certainly new to me, but I am hoping to grasp the idea of emotion soon." Mr. Logan says.

"Are you ready, Y/N? We don't want to be late." Mr. Virgil says, appearing next to us.

"Virgil! Don't startle me like that!" Mr. Logan says in a jumpy tone.

"Sorry. Must've slipped my mind." Mr. Virgil replies. "Pat is waiting in the car for you. Good luck on the belt test today!"

Good luck. Yeah, I'm definitely going to need it today.

Why does the test have to be today?

~time skip, at the test~

I'm in class and the test has just started. I'm feeling terrified and I don't know how this works at all! I hope I don't mess this up.

"All right! We are going to start off this test with back-fist, reverse punch, front kick!" Kyoshi booms from the other side of the mat.

"Ready? Itch! Ni! San! Shi!..."

I lose track of time and am unable to do anything except focus on what I'm doing. I completely zone out, barely listening to my Kyoshi.

"If you kick the ceiling, I'll give you guys a black belt! Let's do a jump front kick!" Kyoshi yells.

I don't hear anything. I block out almost all sound, not showing even a hint of emotion.

I throw the first kick. Launching myself into the air. As I throw my kicks I faintly hear Kyoshi in the background.

"Itch!"

"Ni!"

"San!"

As I throw my third kick, I launch myself into the air. (A/N: Just pretend that the ceiling is low and whatever. Who needs to be realistic? This is a fanfic.) I suddenly snap back to reality as I realize that I've hit something.

I almost fall over as I land on the floor, but somehow manage to stay upright. As I stare at the ceiling, I see streams of dust falling from the tiles. The entire room goes silent. Everyone is staring at me. I hang my head, trying to be as invisible as possible.

"Y/N! Are you alright?" Mr. Logan asks, rushing onto the mat.

I stand there, frozen. Unable to move or speak.

"How did you do that?" I look over and see Kyoshi standing in front of me, astonished.

"I-I-I'm s-sorry, sir. I-I d-d-didn't mean t-to." I say quietly.

"That was very impressive. I don't know how you did that, but I admire your skills. Despite you not being in class very often, you still practiced diligently." Kyoshi beams. "Congratulations...."

"Y/N, you passed the test."

~time skip~

I'm still in shock over what happened at the test. I don't entirely know what happened. In the car on the way home, Mr. Logan kept asking me questions about my wellbeing.

"Are you certain that you are all right, Y/N." Mr. Logan asks me for the fiftieth time.

"I'm fine, Mr. Logan," I say dryly.

I sigh and look out the window to my left. I don't understand what happened at the belt test today. I don't even remember it.

Y/N POV

I'm still shaking. I barely even understand what happened. I replay the scene in my head, but its all a blur. One minute I'm doing basics, and the next thing I know, I'm kicking the ceiling.

I decide to go downstairs and see if I can find someone to talk to. No sign of anyone but me so far.

I walk into the kitchen, expecting to see someone at least sitting at the counter, but there is no one in sight.

I see a note on the kitchen counter and climb upon a chair to read it. I hold the paper in my hands and read it, which is hard to do. Even though Mr. Logan has been teaching me how to read, I still struggle a little bit. However, the note is not too long.

"Went out to grab some food at the store for dinner. Will be back shortly!" ~Patton, Thomas and Roman.

I sigh and place the note back on the counter. I decide to just go back upstairs and knock on Mr. Virgil's bedroom door.

I knock on the door with no response. I reach for the doorknob and open the door. I hear faint music coming from inside Mr. Virgil's room. I can barely make out the lyrics.

"...I have these thoughts, so often I ought

To replace that slot with what I once bought

'Cause somebody stole my car radio

And now I just sit in silence..."

I slowly open the door and start to hear talking. I peek into Mr. Virgil's room. There are black and dark purple accessories everywhere. There are lots of posters for bands, movies, and TV shows that all look really scary. I hear the music grow slightly louder, and I turn my attention to Mr. Virgil and Mr. Logan who are both talking. They suddenly stop and look at me.

"Hey, Kiddo," Mr. Virgil says. "You doin' alright?"

"I perceive that she is still thinking about what happened at the bet test, which is causing her to be anxious. Isn't that right, Y/N?" Mr. Logan asks.

I nod.

"Aww, come here, Y/N." Mr. Virgil says. "You're worrying too much about something that you don't need to worry about anymore. The test is over now. I hear you passed, so that means you did well. Worrying about things that don't matter is my job, so leave that to me, kiddo."

I accidentally let out a little giggle.

"Oh? What's this? Was that a laugh?" Mr. Virgil then proceeds to start tickling me. "Huh? Was that a laugh?"

"St-stop! Stop tickling me-he-he-he!" I protest while laughing.

Mr. Virgil stops and pats me on the head.

"Well, Y/N seems to be in a better mood." Mr. Logan says. "Are you feeling better, Y/N?"

I nod my head. "Yes, Mr. Logan." I turn to the speaker on Mr. Virgil's nightstand. "Mr. Virgil, what music are you guys listening to?"

Mr. Virgil and Mr. Logan exchange a look.

"It's music by these guys called TWENTY  ØNE PILØTS. You probably shouldn't be listening to this considering how young you are, but it's too late now." Mr. Virgils says.

From downstairs, I hear the sound of the door opening.

Mr. Logan picks me up. "Patton, Thomas, and Roman must be back now. Let us go greet them, shall we?" He says. Mr. Virgil opens the door and we walk downstairs to greet Mr. Patton and the others.
