A/N: the picture above serves no purpose to the story, I just got bored while doing practical read notes in my playbook and I'm trying to be more confident in myself. Hope you guys don't mind! (If you care, we're doing the play "The Diary Of Anne Frank". Huge set and no set changes, so sadly, no shift crew. It's still going to be amazing!)
Enjoy the chapter, my lovelies! No trigger warning this time. I thought we'd have a soft chapter full of cuteness and uwu's! Have fun!
Y/N POV
Today, Xavier adopted a dog. It's another albino German Shepard, but female. Her name is Bailey (A/N: Your author loves Grey's Anatomy too much). She and Toby get along well, so it's no surprise that they had the cutest little German Shepard puppies. Most were all white with barely visible brown spots, but one of the puppies had a black patch on his eye. I named him Sumo. He was going to be the puppy I kept. Xavier's family runs a dog foster care system, so the other puppies will be taken care of for a long time. The one they're deciding to keep is Skarmory. Xavier named her after the Pokémon since her white fur looked like it was almost silver.
The other pups are adorable. We named the other puppies Aspen, Cooky and Echo. Aspen and Cooky are both female, while Echo is male.
Today, I noticed that I haven't really trained Sumo, but the truth is I never really had to, since he always follows in Toby's footsteps. He's already gotten so big, and he's just like his dad in terms of obedience. He's been loyal and loving from the start, just like Toby.
I don't know if I'll ever be ready for Toby to go, but at least I'll have Sumo when he's gone. I'll still have a piece of him left.
I'm sitting on my window seat with a bag of popcorn and my chemistry homework when I see Sumo looking at me.
"What is it, Sumo?" I ask as I set my homework down.
Sumo jumps on my window seat and starts sniffing my popcorn bag. Curious, I reach into the bag and give Sumo a piece. I can tell instantly that he likes it. I smile as I watch him try to stick his paw in the bag so that he can poke his head in and grab the popcorn. He doesn't succeed, thankfully, but it's funny to watch.
"Come on, Sumo! Let's go outside!" I grab both his leash and Toby's leash and we head outside to train Sumo to be a service and protector dog, just like we did for Toby.
Training can be difficult, Sumo is still a puppy. He doesn't go to school with me yet since he hasn't completed his basic training yet. Once he does, Sumo will start accompanying me at school.
Today, we have to work on making sure that Sumo is able to detect when my anxiety goes through the roof. Another thing we have to work on is making sure that Sumo can ward off attackers.
Roman is the one to help me train Sumo to be a guard dog since he's such a good actor, and can be very convincing. He wears a black padded suit and a special wrist strap that covers his forearm. It adds extra padding so that Roman doesn't get injured.
The situations are all different so that Sumo gets exposed to the kinds of dangers he has to protect me from. This scenario involves Roman holding a fake, wooden gun, and he's holding the gun to the back of my head.
"Heel, Sumo." I command.
Sumo sits next to me, and stays still.
"You're coming with me." Roman says in an admittedly scary voice.
"Okay." I reply.
I start walking forward before quickly turning around and seizing the gun. Sumo then jumps on top of Roman and bites him. Roman covers his face so that his protected arm gets bitten instead.
