I felt much better after Sebastian’s blood had taken full effect, and I could hardly feel any pain. We had set off looking through hall after hall of rooms, I myself meeting about a hundred knew vampires (some not so nice), but we had absolutely no luck. No one had seen him in a really long time – or at least what seemed like a long time. When we figured that Trace definitely wasn’t here, Sebastian stretched out on the couch in one of the many entertainment rooms and I plopped down in a chair on the opposite side of the room, sighing in frustration. My vampire remained silent, and it was quite comforting, but I myself couldn’t keep my mouth shut. “You know, I wouldn’t be so worried about Trace’s whereabouts if weird things hadn’t been happening lately. As good of a friend as Trace is, I could just about care less as to where he is.” I admitted.
I closed my eyes and leaned back in the elegant, padded chair (apparently vampires had very good and very comfortable taste) and exhaled deeply. When I opened my eyes, Sebastian was leaning over me, his warm breath on my face. I rolled my eyes then glared at him. “No, you can go back to your couch where you came from and stay as far away from me as possible.” I hissed and he smirked.
“Feisty.” He purred and it took me an extreme effort not to react to that. I kept my glare firmly on my face and he sauntered right back over to his couch with a glorious smirk on his face. I could punch him. Sebastian laid himself out on the couch once more, but this time with a slow grace to tempt me since he knew I was watching. I inhaled sharply, but never exhaled. He was watching me with his intent stare and I knew all too well what he was thinking about.
One second I was in the chair and Sebastian was on the couch, then the next we had met halfway, glaring at each other fiercely. I brought my hand up to punch him but he caught my wrist, so I moved my leg to knee him and he stepped towards me, pushing me back so that I had to use my strongest leg for balance. I hissed at him, and for a moment, amusement flickered across his face, but of course, he replaced his grim mask.
His free hand began to slide up the outside of my thigh towards my butt and I stepped back violently, dragging him with me. He looked a tad surprised but he did not falter in his attempt. Next, he slid his hand to rest in the small of my back, just below my wounds, and an idea crossed my mind. I yelped in pain and his eyes widened, scared he had hurt me. This made him let go and step back. I smirked and as I turned to run, I saw realization don on his face.
I ran faster than I had the first time I ran from Sebastian. Especially since I had had his blood not too long ago; not to mention how much stronger I had become. I was out the door before he had even started to come after me and I ran down the hall, using my vamp speed to get me as far away as possible in the shortest amount of time. My blood pounded loudly in my ears, and I could feel the adrenaline pumping through me. I knew my mate would never hurt me, but it was still fun to run from him, especially when I knew the consequences.
This time I found the front door easily on my own, booking it through that little hole of wood and out into the beautiful forest. Pine needles and dead leaves were strewn across the fertile soil of my surroundings and so the minute that Sebastian was on my heels in the forest, I could hear him. He wasn’t that far behind.
“Woman! I am getting tired of chasing after you! Get back here!” He shouted at me and I stuck my tongue out over my shoulder at him.
Then I ran into something hard. The force of the impact knocked me backwards and onto my back in the painful needles. My wounds throbbed at the strike to the ground and the needles digging into it. I groaned in pain, not even caring what I ran into, and then there was an unfamiliar voice.
“My, my. What do we have here? I doubted you of all people would find a mate Sebastian.” The voice said in a smug kind of way.
“What about yourself, Lucian? Has my little brother found his one and only yet?” Sebastian growled. His what?! My head began to spin and I felt like screaming at them. The stranger – Lucian – put his hand on me to pick me up and Sebastian made a very scary sound.
“Forgive me; I was merely trying to help your mate.” Lucian informed. And I thought one Sebastian was bad! Now there were two? Crap.
“You are forbidden to come here unless on orders from your leader. What business do you have here?” Sebastian lifted me with ease, but was mindful of my wounds. I was glad to be in his warm arms, and there I cuddled close to him.
“I have… news. Of one of your friends? The vampire Trace?” He said slowly, as if he were really actually trying to think of what he was saying. It didn’t matter though, because the name had caught my attention. I leaped from Sebastian’s arms and stood before his brother, a challenge apparent in my eyes.
“Where is he? What have you done?” I demanded, all fired up. This guy didn’t scare me one bit, and I was prepared to kick his ass if I had to.
“Wow, looks like I could enjoy this.” He said, observing me for all I was worth. Apparently he was thinking the same as every other vampire had: a true match for Sebastian and a little ball of fire. Except this time it was different. This time, I was facing Sebastian’s brother, and I could sense he had a few tricks up his sleeves.
