I really wanted to kiss Nate. I had to shake that idea out of my head because there was absolutely no way that was the case here. He was simply just having a conversation with me. He just wanted out of his relationship with Anna.
After the party ended, it still lingered on my mind and I couldn't begin to process anything logically. It took me a few minutes to register the tapping sound on my window. I frowned as I walked towards the window and opened the curtains, only to jump back once more when something else hit the window.
I opened the window and saw Nate on the ground outside. I scoffed, shaking my head.
"You're really gonna break my window." I told him. I attempted to say it quietly, considering Melanie was asleep not even ten feet away.
"Well, the idea was that you were supposed to stop me before then." He grinned. "Come outside, it's too nice to sit in there the whole night."
"If I leave my house, my mom's going to kill me," I replied, "besides, why would I want to go anywhere with you?" The grin on his face widened and I knew that somehow he had a plan and I would probably end up getting in trouble for it.
"Fine, I'll be right back." He ran out of my sight for maybe a couple minutes before he returned, a ladder in his hands. I couldn't help but smile. This man was all sorts of extra, in every sense of the term.
"Where the hell did you get that from?" I asked in bewilderment. He set it up and climbed up to the roof. He sat in front of my window, holding his hand out to me.
"That doesn't matter. Come out here with me."
"That's the worst idea I've ever heard." I whined. "Does Ethan know you're doing this?"
"What Ethan doesn't know won't hurt him." Nate replied, reaching to grab my hand. I let him, noticing just how significantly bigger his hands were than mine. I held onto him tightly as he brought me out on the roof. He chuckled at me and squeezed my arm.
"I'm gonna fall, Nate, I'm gonna die and it's all your fault." My words only served to humor him, apparently, or maybe he was just an evil being who fed off of people's fears.
"You're not gonna fall," he said. "I won't let you fall." I could finally take in his appearance. He was wearing a red sweatshirt and a simple pair of sweatpants but for some reason, he still looked absolutely stunning to me.
In the early spring of 2007, the nights became chilly. It was a bad night to wear short sleeves and of course, Nate noticed that.
"Are you cold?" He asked.
"No, I'm okay." I told him, but he knew.
"You can't even try to lie to me." He scoffed. "You're very bad at lying." He pulled his sweatshirt over his head and before I could protest, he was making me pull it over my head. He fixed up his t-shirt and smiled at me.
"Now you're gonna be cold - Nate, just take it back -"
"No, it's fine. I'm fine, I don't want you to be cold. It's my fault you're out here." He patted the top of my head and I glared at him. He just smiled at me until I had to look away.
"So why are we sitting out here?" I asked him. "You could've just come into my room, you know."
"Well," he scrunched up his nose. "Don't you think that'd be weird?"
"Why would it be weird?" I frowned at him.
"Let me spell this out for you." He said, leaning back against the wall next to my window. He pulled me next to him, and thankfully it was dark or I would've blushed. He sighed. "I'm twenty-three, you're fifteen. People might get the wrong idea."
