Two weeks. I hadn't heard from him in two weeks. What did I expect? The party Melanie had wanted to go to was approaching quickly, it was tonight in less than three hours. I hadn't told Melanie what happened at Nate's and I also left out the part where he's been ignoring me for two weeks.
We were getting ready for the party that I had little motivation to attend. It was a college party, which meant a lot of drunk idiots and too much grinding. The only reason we were going was because Mel's boyfriend knew people, apparently. And that unfortunately meant that I would spend my night third wheeling - as always.
"If you don't want to go to this party, we can stay here." Melanie told me as I tucked the simple white shirt into my black shorts.
"No, it's okay!" I reassured her. "You've been planning this for weeks. I'm sure I'll like it when we get there." She gave me an uncertain look but I just smiled at her. "I'll drive separately in case I don't have fun."
"Just try to have fun, okay?" She nudged me. "Maybe you'll meet a cute college boy."
"Yeah, probably not," I rolled my eyes. "Let's get some food or something."
The two of us went to get food before we had to pick up her boyfriend, Mike. Michael Anderson was a plainly average person. He was easily one of the most popular kids in our school, his blonde hair was nearly shaved down to his head and his green eyes were dark, nearly brown. He was really, extraordinarily plain.
Once we finished eating, she threw out her trash before she came back to me. She told me we had to pick up her boyfriend, and at that news, I groaned internally. She took me back to my house and I got my keys.
I followed her to her boyfriend's house, which was almost a representation of his personality. The house itself wasn't small but the white color had faded into a beige, nearly brown. I scrunched my nose up until saw the dog in his backyard. Now that was the only good thing about him. Hopefully, the thing wasn't as dull as him.
He only took three minutes to come out of his house. His outfit was nearly matching with Melanie's and I cringed when I realized they did that on purpose. My mind wandered off to Nate, and what he would be doing right now.
He was probably, that had to be it. He was busy with work. He only actually had to attend three times a week - his father was a CEO at a cell phone company and he worked there. He was training to become the CEO in his father's place.
We arrived at the party almost on time. It was already raging and the loud, booming music could be heard from the street. I got out of my car and walked towards the door. I immediately found myself walking into the kitchen. I hadn't necessarily intended on drinking, but when that was the only thing available, I allowed myself to have a few drinks. I sat at the table, away from most of the people and the modern rap music that I didn't care for.
I sat there for a while, unable to think of anything or anyone else other than Nate. I was mad, I had every right to be. He said we would talk the next day and now, two weeks later, he hadn't spoken a word to me nor had he come over to see Ethan.
I looked up when I heard someone walk into the kitchen, almost surprised to see that it was Sam. I rarely saw him, he never came around much and it hadn't even crossed my mind that he was in college now.
"Sam? What are you doing here?"
"It's my party." He chuckled. Things began to click in my head and I nodded slowly. Sam was probably in his second or third year of college. "The real question is, is why are you here? With alcohol? How old are you now? Fifteen?"
"I'm sixteen." I glared at him. "I was dragged here by my friend. I don't make the party scene a lot." I admitted honestly. He sat down next to me, his own cup in his hand that he took small drinks out of.
