"And who do you plan on telling that you were in my room?" I chuckled at him. "It doesn't really matter, either, considering you're my brother's friend and even if you were my age, I would never - what?" I stopped when I saw the half smile on his face, his eyes shining with amusement.

"Nothing," he shrugged. "You're just a horrible liar." Then he gave me that look again, the same look I'd received earlier when we were the last two in the kitchen. He let out a sigh, his eyes flashing with some type of emotion I couldn't recognize.

"It's not so much that I'm a horrible liar, it's just that you're really good at reading people." I told him honestly. He bit his lip and looked away from me, a feeling that almost felt like disappointment swarming me. What was I expecting? Him to confess his undying love for me?

"You know," he rested his head against the wall behind him. "It's not fair."

"What's not fair?" I questioned.

"This." He sighed. "I just...I shouldn't bother you with these kinds of things." He shrugged and adjusted so his arm that had been around me this entire time was now at his side.

"What kinds of things?"

"Adult things." He replied easily, making me scoff.

"Then what am I even doing out here? What was the point if you just -"

"I wanted to see you." He told me. "I honestly don't like being away from you." His answer took me off guard and I sat there for a couple minutes, attempting to process his words.

"Nate...?"

"Hm?"

"What happened earlier?" I asked him, not so subtly leaning against him. My head was against his shoulder and he didn't show a single sign that he didn't like it.

"What do you mean?" He sounded confused. Surely he hadn't forgotten that?

"In the kitchen," I said. "You looked at me funny."

"Don't make me explain that." He chuckled quietly, shaking his head before he looked up to the sky. There were barely any stars out. "Does this make me a bad guy?" He whispered, almost to himself.

"Why would this make you a bad guy?" I asked him in a whisper.

"I'm sitting on a roof with my best friend's little sister in the middle of the night, even though I know he'd be pissed. And...and especially when I'm not even supposed to acknowledge you." The laugh he gave was full of self-pity, the kind where he knew he was wrong but he just didn't care.

"Who said you weren't allowed to acknowledge me?"

"Ethan." He sighed. "And Anna." There it was again. She was always a common subject when I was with Nate.

"Can I ask you a serious question?" I looked at him and waited for him to look at me.

"Of course."

"Do you really want to be with Anna?" The question lingered for a couple minutes in the air before he showed any reaction to it. His eyes drooped and he ran his fingers through his hair, clearing his throat.

"Not really," he shrugged. "I can't just...break up with her, though. I guess I'm a horrible person for leading her on or whatever but I really can't handle her going crazy right now. She...she knows things that I'd hate for your brother to find out and he's the first person she would tell if she had the opportunity."

He caught my eyes again and he gave me the smallest hint of a smile.

"Are you tired? I shouldn't keep you up this late."
