THINGS YOU CAN'T CHANGE

Start from the beginning

They got up and left without giving us a second glance "What shall we have?" Rachel smiled looking at the menu "Was that necessary?" I asked her "Yes Zach it was" she looked at me "Know your limits Rachel, you don't own me" she frowned at this "Hail a cab and go back home" I got up and left the restaurant.

I felt guilty, not only for Rachel's behaviour today but also for hurting Shay, she looked sad, betrayed and lost. I was lucky Aiden stood by her, as much as I hated him no matter what I was really thankful to him. May be this was it, this is all we could be Shay Waldorf.

RACHEL'S POV:

I entered the hotel lobby and made my way towards the elevator when I bumped into someone "Rachel?" he asked, I looked up at the person "William? when did you come here?" I hugged him "I came two days ago" we went to the coffee shop "So, what are your plans for the day?" he asked me "Well I had a fight with your brother and now I going to do nothing but sit in my room till I leave for the airport tomorrow" I saw a shopping bag in his hand "What's that?" He looked down at it "It's a necklace for mother" I nodded "I have to leave now Rachel" I frowned at this "Can I join?" I asked timidly, he looked surprised for a moment and nodded.

"You might get bored" William got off the car and opened my door "It's better than sulking in my room" I looked around the place what looked like a green patch with a few graves here and there. He took the bouquet of orchids and walked towards a grave, I quietly followed him until we reached the grave.

In The Loving Memory Of

ELENORE DELAFONTAINE

1963-1997

A beloved Daughter, wife and mother

Rest In Peace

I realised it was William's birth mother's grave "I'm sure you have heard about the first Delafontaine lady?" I nodded "She spent most of her life in Australia, until she met dad during a trip to USA and married him" he placed the flowers on her grave "Her last wish was to be buried where she considered home" he sat down next to the grave "How did she..." he looked at me "Die? she killed herself" a low gasp left my lips "She was a simple woman, who lived a simple life in a small farm raising cattle, making wine and living with her loving parents" he smiled "I used to visit my grandparents, they were kind and simple souls. They would treat me better than my dad. they weren't exactly rich but their love filled the gap" he stood up "My grandpa died when I was about four due to a cardiac arrest and grandma died a year later" I let him continue knowing it would be best if I don't interrupt "My mom lived her life making wine and taking care of me, she was often looked down for not being rich by birth, my dad found her embarrassing" I placed my hand on his shoulder "My grandparents death was a big blow on her and she fell into depression and eventually killed herself".

We drove back in silence "I am sorry I vented out a lot on you" he told me as we got of the car and entered the hotel "Maybe I'll do the same if I ever need you" we smiled at each other and went to our rooms.

***

SHAY'S POV:

"Why are you planning to leave so soon?" I sighed "It's not because of what happened today right?" Aiden sat down beside me "No of course not! It's just that I think I have to go home already, I can't keep troubling you guys" he scowled at this "If mom heard you, you wouldn't be alive" I laughed nervously "Ok, but go the day after we are hosting a dinner tomorrow and I want you to be there" I smiled.

"So I heard you're hosting with us" Uncle John grinned "If it isn't an issue" Aunt Lisa laughed at me "Of course it isn't honey" we ate the food with Aunt Lisa telling me how we should go shopping tomorrow as I needed a new dress or something along those lines.

Aunt Lisa stood true to her words and took me out to shop, we shopped for what seemed the whole day with her dragging me around and we finally settled on a baby pink dress which came down till my knees.

We were heading out when I saw Zach and Rachel holding hands and coming out with a salesperson carrying shopping bags right behind them, both of them had wide smiles on their faces, I felt sad looking at them "Alexa are you coming?" I nodded and followed her out.

I couldn't change what I felt for Zach at least for the time being but I couldn't also change the fact that he was engaged to someone and is likely to spend his life with her, so it is for the best I forget him.
