I smiled. It always made me happy to receive texts from Gemma.
cherry-bomb: Hey there

I heard footsteps storming up the stairs. My door swung open.
"Cheryl," my mother snapped. "There's someone here to see you."
I tapped the button on my phone, locking it, and stood up, headed downstairs. Who'd be here to see me? Everyone at school hates me.
I opened the door, to see Veronica Lodge standing outside.
"Veronica. What can I do for you?" I said.
"I- God, Cheryl, I'm so sorry. I just- I had to apologize again. Can we talk?" She pleaded. I pursed my lips, but stepped out of the doorway, so she could come in.
We sat in the dining room, across from each other. It was silent for a while, both of us just sipping our tea, waiting for the other to speak.
After what seemed like forever, Veronica finally broke the silence.
"I like someone." She confessed.
"You like someone. Like, like-like someone?" I raised an eyebrow. "But what about Archie? Aren't you head over heels for that ginger?"
"Well, yeah, but, I don't know. Maybe I don't like-like them. Maybe- oh, God. I don't know." She sighed.
"Who? Who do you think you like?" I asked.
"I-" she sighed again. "You know the pink-haired serpent?"
"No? I didn't notice any pink haired serpent guys."
"No, the pink-haired serpent girl. Toni." She stared into her tea.
"Wait, Toni? You like- you like a girl?" I asked, trying so hard not to get mad.
"Cheryl, how did you know you liked girls?" She asked.
"No, you're avoiding my question, Veronica. You made fun of me for liking girls. But now, you think you like girls?!" I hushed my voice, incase my mother heard. Veronica slowly nodded, avoiding eye contact.
I shook my head, and stood up to leave. I think she tried to say something, to stop me, but I didn't listen. I just got up and walked outside. I sat down on the sunbed, trying to figure it out.
Veronica sat down next to me, and put her hand on my shoulder. "I'm sorry I made fun of you, and said I'd tell Reggie. That was a bitchy thing to do" she said. "What happened with you and Reggie, by the way? He always tends to twist the story." She asked. I was glad she was asking for the truth.
"I didn't consent. I was unconscious." I sobbed.
"Oh, Cheryl, I'm so sorry. That shouldn't've happened to you. That's awful." She sympathized.
I looked over and smiled at her. I don't know what it was, but she looked especially gorgeous. I learnt into her, wrapping my arms around her.
"I'm sorry. I overreacted. I'm glad you're being honest with me. And I'm glad you trust me enough to talk to me." I apologized. She hugged me, tightly. She ran her fingers through my hair, which felt wonderful. It was nice to have someone who cared for me.
