third person pov"Hurry up, you guys! You take longer than Scarlett," Zhengting yelled, sitting on the other side of the couch from the girl who once had a crush on him.
It was just the two of them sitting in the room while everyone else was getting dressed to go to the mall. It seemed everyone wanted to get new things for school, but maybe they were also tired of sitting in the house the past couple days until school started back up.
"You're acting very weird," Scarlett spoke up glancing at the boy who even looked uncomfortable. His legs crossed and his body trying to look as small as possible. It was clear he didn't want to be in the room with her and only her. "If you have something you'd like to say, just say it. It's not like I'm going to kick you out of the house or something."
Scarlett had remembered the time that she had a crush on the two year older boy. She had confessed at his house while the two of them were practicing a dance they had made together. After telling him, he didn't act weird about it. He was actually as he normally was, still more of a mother figure.
Maybe that's why I liked him. Cause he reminded me of a female, Scar thought to herself as she waited for his reply.
"Sorry I'm fashionably late. Though, I'm not sorry for looking so good," Yanjun stated walking into the tension filled room. His eyes moved over Zhengting, who was playing with the arm of the couch, then over to Scarlett who was flipping her phone in her hands not acknowledging his entrance. "What's up with you, Crimson? Did I make you wait miserably?"
She let out a deep sigh as her brown eyes met his across the room. "Actually, it was very peaceful without you. You ruined it, but maybe you can make it u-"
"Okay, let's not start our day with your guys' disgusting flirting slash seducing game," Zhangjing clapped his small hands as everyone else began rushing down the stairs to leave.
"He's just mad Yanjun doesn't flirt with him anymore," Chengcheng muttered.
Scarlett didn't say anything, but got out of her spot and passed Yanjun, bumping into him as she went. "Oops," she said as one corner of her pink lips curved up.
"I call shot gun," Justin said to Chengcheng who punched his bicep, but didn't fight about it. Everyone got out of the house and Zhengting was the one to lock it like usual.
"Everyone closed their windows, right," he asked pausing for a moment.
"Yes, mother," the children playfully said in unison.
"Scar," Linkai called standing beside Ziyi's car. She turned her attention to him, Ziyi, and Xukun who were leaning against the ride.
"Come with us," Ziyi raised an eyebrow and Scar quickly accepted making her way to them. Scar was able to drive, technically, but she hadn't gotten licensed in China nor did she have a car. She had to wait for her parents to come back home from their work in Japan, but she also didn't mind it because she didn't have anywhere to go that someone wouldn't take her.
It was usually Xukun who would drive her around if she needed a ride. He would always insist on it even when she would ask someone else because she didn't want to be bothersome to him.
The group played loud music as they drove to the mall and when they got there they were the first.
"Are we going to wait for the others," Scarlett asked when they entered through the glass doors of the mall. She wasn't exactly sure how things went considering there were so many of them.
"Nope. See ya guys later," Xiao Gui called over his shoulder as he walked away towards some stores.
"We usually just go on our own," Ziyi shrugged walking off with him. "Text me if you need."
"Seriously," Scarlett asked watching as they left her and Xukun. With a long sigh she looked over to the boy who stayed with her only to see he hadn't stayed with her and disappeared to wherever he did. "Great."
After a moment of deciding whether or not to run after Ziyi and Xiao Gui, Scarlett decided to go on her own since they seemed to be quick to leave. Scarlett walked through the mall, quietly window shopping alone and went inside a store every now and then when something peaked her interest.
"Thank you," Scarlett smiled to the girl who rung up her items before grabbing her new clothes. She swung the brown bag as she walked out of the store with a smile on her face.
At the same time, Yanjun came out of the store beside the one Scarlett was in. He too was alone since Zhangjing went straight to the food court and Nongnong went straight to the arcade to win a giant plush toy from the large crane game.
"Red," Yanjun called when he saw her happily walking out of the clothing store. Her hair whooshed as she turned her head to see him jogging towards her. "You lonely cause if you are I'll make sure you're never alone again."
"I rather jump off a cliff," Scar smiled turning away, but walking a slow pace enough for him to walk along side her. He took it, wanting to still mess with her which he knew she wouldn't mind.
The two of them walked in silence for a while, looking around to see if anything caught their eyes. Whether realizing it or not, they had walked close to one another. Yanjun's hand nearly brushing against her own.
"I've been thinking a lot lately," Yanjun said cutting through the somehow comfortable silence between the two of them.
"Woah, you can use your brain," Scarlett gasped with a small laugh drifting behind it. Yanjun's eyes narrowed at her as he shoved his hands in his pockets and turned to her for a moment.
"Ha ha ha," he laughed sarcastically, but couldn't hide his smile. "Anyways, I've been think a lot lately..."
"About what?"
"You," he said and she rolled her dark eyes.
"That was horrible," she let out a dry laugh. "If you're going to win - not that I'm saying you will - but you need better material."
"What do mean? I'm boyfriend material."
"More like side chick material," she said then noticed a store she actually wanted to go into. "Lets going in there," she pointed before walking off leaving Yanjun to follow after.
When they entered, Scarlett immediately began looking through the clothing while Yanjun stood to the side.
"How am I only side chick material?"
"Well, side chicks are only people you like to have fun with. You're not really looking for a relationship with them," Scar shrugged not looking at him as she shopped. "To be boyfriend material a girl has to know she can rely on you and it's just supposed to be a deeper connection. But you're just a flirt - you and me are just flirts - so all we really are are side chicks in a way."
"I guess," he muttered as she pulled a pink cropped top t-shirt from the rack. She smiled in satisfactory as she looked at it then turned to look around more.
"Why? You looking for a relationship or something," she giggled glancing at him as he followed her with a bored expression.
"No way. I don't date, not anymore," he stated crossing his arms over his chest as she snatched a dress off a rack, but kept walking.
The life of rich kids, Yanjun thought to himself seeing the girl so happy about the clothes inside.
"Join the club."
