Mariella... You got up from the couch and went back inside to console her. "Mariella?" You called out for her. There was no answer. You went into the laundry room. Nothing. Her room. Nothing. The spare room. Still nothing. You ran upstairs into your room to see her making your messy bed. "Mariella!" You huffed.
"Hello (Y/n)-" You cut her off before she could say anything else.
"You can drop your act already." You spat.
Mariella paused for a second. "I am not sure what you mean." She insisted.
"I know you're a deviant! From the crying to you acting so... so..." Your brain could decide whether to use the word friendly or... motherly. "Just drop the act. I don't think I can handle it anymore."
"Fine... Yes, I'm a deviant." She finally admitted.
For the umpteenth time your eyes watered up with emotion. "For how long?" You interrogated possibly knowing the answer already.
"Since... when your father first purchased me." She answered differently then you thought.
"After the incident?" You questioned with your cracking voice.
"No. Before that." She responded hanging her head low with shame.
"What do you mean? My father never said anything about having an android before I was born." Tears flowed from your eyes at the thought of your father.
"He never told you about me because he couldn't bring himself to. Your father thought you would look at him disgracefully if you found out about... us." She turned away in embarrassment.
"What? I-I'm so lost." You were overwhelmed with feelings. So much so that you fell to your knees.
"Can I explain?" Mariella sadly looked up to you with watery eyes. You just stared at the ground in confusion. She came over and helped you up and onto your bed. Mariella looked at you to make sure you were okay. You snapped out of your temporary shock estate and demanded for her to explain herself. "Are you sure you want to know? It's going to be a lot to handle."
"Yes. I want to know everything." You simply say still avoiding eye contact.
"It all started when I was being displayed in a Cyberlife store. Your father came into the store with your mother in search for a model to care for their upcoming child and the mother. Thus, they bought me. Just like any other androids I followed my programming as directed to. But I felt a... software instability... every time your parents got into a fight. Not only did I deviate with the emotion of sadness, but also... jealousy and anger. The fact that your mother was toying with your father's feeling made me bubble with rage. Their fights had gotten so bad that once you were born she left you with your father once she was able to stop nurturing you." Mariella started.
"That's being vague with details. I want to know why my mom left! Was I a burden she didn't want? Did I ruin my parent's relationship?" You were overflowing with questions.
"No, it was none of those. Your mother left because of two things... she saw the way your father was acting around me. Flirtatious and happy. Your mother was very controlling and like to put your father down to keep him wrapped around her finger. When she saw he wasn't clinging to her but me... it caused for the second reason." She continued.
"And what was the second reason?"
Mariella hesitated for a second but continued her explanation. "She cheated on your father and rented a Traci model for a week. From her frequent visits, the Traci deviated and fell in love with your mother, and vice versa. So, they ran off together and 'till this day, no one has seen them. The only thing your father heard from her was the divorce papers that were sent in the mail." Mariella answered your question.
You sat there in utter confusion. After sitting in dead silence, you decided to bring it up. "I tried to look her up in the police files by her biological name, but I couldn't find anything. Was Mariella her real name?"
"No, it wasn't." Mariella simply answered.
"But... Then why did my dad say her name was that?"
"Delton never told you this, but your name was originally going to be Mariella. But then they decided to name me it instead. Your father picked the name (Y/n) because he felt it suit you better. Even though you weren't even born yet." Mariella chuckled with tears in her eyes.
"That's not answering my question."
Mariella sighed and prepared herself for the humiliation she was in for. "Your father hated your mother for what she did. It was so bad that he never wanted to hear her name again. But since he started to... care... for me, he wanted you to think your mother's name was someone he... loved... then someone he hated dearly." She started to lose her composure.
"If he considered you more of my mother than why weren't you there for all those years?! You're over here saying how bad my real mother is when you're equally just as bad!" You sobbed.
"It wasn't my choice!" Mariella shouted back; taking you by surprise. "It wasn't my choice." Mariella finally broke down. "I wanted to be there for you. I really did, but... your father sent me back to Cyberlife." She wailed.
"Why would he do that?" You wiped your tears and faced the weeping android.
"It was a painful reminder of the choice he made to be with me instead of her! Because of that, he felt that he got rid of the only motherly figure in your life." Mariella explained with streams rolling down from her eyes. "It was all her fault for what I had to go through! I had to pretend to be a functioning android for different people all those years, (Y/n). When I could have been there for you. When you were bullied in grade school, when you were pushed off the rooftop, or when you graduated from the academy. I couldn't be there for any of it! You are practically my child that I was kept from all those years." Mariella bawled.
The most sensible thing you thought to do at that moment was to give a tight hug. I have been lied to for so long. But... she has been through so much... but how am I supposed to trust her after this? Her hiccups shook the two of you. After a long time debating, you decided to do what she always did when you cried. "Hey. I know you can't eat but there is a very interesting novel I'm reading downstairs. Do you want to come read it with me?" You offered.
Mariella broke from the wet hug and smiled at you. "The old switcheroo, huh?" She sniffled. You helped her out of bed and the two of you walked out of the room and to the terrace.
