Song Of The Chapter:
The Beginning Of The End - Klergy, Valerie BroussardThat you were the one I needed to kill all along?
Lance felt his blood run cold.
As quick as a flash, Lance yelled and shoved Keith out of the way, as if he was loosing control of his actions.
Lance wanted to move as a bullet came streaking toward him, but it was too late.
Lance fell backward, but didn't even register hitting the ground. Lance's consciousness flickered for a second, and he felt as if he was feeling nothing and everything all at once.
Feeling that strange detachment, Lance realized half of his face was missing. Slowly, Lance came back to himself—and seeing the chipped away part of his face laying next to him made his heart clench with burning, spiteful vengeance.
Lance's eyes slitted, and he turned toward his father, chest tight in pure malice.
He attacked, completely unhinged.
"THAT'S IT, YOU'RE DEAD!"
His father was caught by surprise, because he had just barely enough time to block the full on attack with a shield.
Lance backed up, forming a violent wave of ice shards hurtling at his father. The man grunted out in pain as some ripped at his legs and exposed arms, until the force of the attack was enough to make him collapse.
But, strangely enough, Lance's father started laughing.
"I'VE BEEN WAITING SO LONG FOR A MOMENT LIKE THIS! COME AT ME WITH ALL YOU HAVE! SHOW ME YOUR TRUE SELF!"
He threw himself at Lance, using a flamethrower that was attached to his wrist.
Lance was faster. He leapt over his father, sending ice storming toward the man. His father switched tatics, using a knife to attack at close range. They clashed, stabbing and freezing, both with the intent to kill.Lance let out a roar as he got a hold on his father, throwing the man to the ground. He landed a few feet away, letting out a groan.
Lance was about to attack again but stopped in his tracks.
In his father's hand was some sort of control panel with multiple buttons.
"Ah- Ah! You attack again and you will see to it that your mom gets killed."
Lance growled out a sound, impatient and steaming with anger.
"Why you-" he hissed, taking a threatening step forward. His father's thumb hovered over a button, making Lance hesitate again.
"Let me ask you one thing, Lance."
Lance narrowed his eyes.
"Why are you so determined to help Slate? All he has ever done is bad things to you. He got you in prison! Why follow him so blindly?"
Lance let out a small huff of a laugh.
"I help him because he's helped me through so much, unlike you. He's proven there's more to me then some murderous thief. Not only that, but he showed me that I can be loved, even if I'm like this."
Lance took a shaking breath in, closing his eyes, a small, fond smile capturing his lips.
"He's shown me acceptance. Compassion. Something that you have never shown toward me."
Lance almost laughed, his eyes flicking back to his father.
"Actually, you never seemed to give a shit about me, even when I was little. You only were interested in my powers. I was like some war machine to you. And that's why people like you deserve to burn in hell."
"You are nothing. Slate is just getting to your head. He's making you care too much about others. Maybe if I introduce more pain to your life, you will fall in line again."His grin was wicked, and Lance could clearly read what he was thinking right then.
But before he could react, the finger that was hovering over the button pressed down.
Lance stared, eyes widening and thoughts spiraling.
"You...."
The sound of a car turning on cut Lance's sentence short, and he turned to see a single vehicle driving toward him from the opposite side of the bridge.
"That right there, contains your mother," his father said with a foul smirk. "And we are going to test to see if she can swim."
"NO!" Screamed Lance, leaving his father to chase after the car.
No no no no no no no no-
A gunshot, and Lance felt his leg give out on him. His body was between ice and skin, as if it was trying to decide which to choose. Part of his leg chipped away, but it instantly began bleeding.
Lance continued to half sprint, though he developed a limp.
"Not so fast!" His father called out, and a large canon like blast sent Lance flying forward, crashing to the ground from the impact of the missle that had been launched at him. Lance let out a cry, feeling a small jolt of pain shoot up his leg.Looking ahead of him, Lance saw his mother being lead forcefully out, pushed to the edge of the bridge.
"LET HER GO!"
Lance let out a shout of pain, but forced himself to his feet and began to run as fast as he could manage, using the help of his ice power as support.
Slate had been busy holding off Lance's father's men, but now was attacking the man head on.
Lance couldn't worry about that now.
The man holding his mother hostage looked back at Lance.
"Let's put her to the test."
"NO!" Lance shrieked, throwing himself forward.
Lance watched in pure horror as his mother was shoved off the bridge, handcuffed and mouth taped.
Lance blasted the man in the chest with a thick shard of ice, anxiety and rage searing through him.
Then, without a second thought, Lance dove in after his mom, hearing Slate scream his name behind him.-
"LANCE!"
Keith had watched as the boy dove off the bridge. There was a cackle behind him, and Keith dodged just in time as a knife came hurling in his direction.
"Looks like loverboy might be dead!"
Keith snarled in anger and turned, attacking Lance's father hard. Claws scraped at exposed skin, knives raked into flesh. Keith ended up pinning the man down, face enraged and pupils slitted.
"Why do you want him to die so badly?! He's your son!" Hissed Keith, tightening his grip on Lance's father's wrists.
Lance's father sneered. "Good riddance."
Keith couldn't believe this man.He took two of the man's knives, jabbing them into each wrist and into the ground below them.
"Don't try escaping."
The smile back at him was horrible.
"I like you. You are quite violent when it comes to fighting. If only I had you at my side."
Keith curled his lip in disgust.
"You make me want to vomit."
He turned and left the man there, running to the edge of the bridge to see if Lance had resurfaced.
There was no sign of the pale boy or his mother.
Anxious, Keith cursed and raced off the bridge and down to the shore.
The worst thoughts spiralled in his head.
He couldn't loose Lance.
Not now. Not again. Not here, not like this.
"Not now not now not now," Keith hissed, scanning the bank.
"No... come on Lance..." Keith said desperately.
To his luck, a few seconds later, a head broke the surface. Lance was sputtering and coughing, but he was alive.
However, Keith realized something as he watched Lance thrash in the water. There was no sign of Lance's mother.
