Nevaeh's POV

I zipped the bag up and made my way to the door, avoiding the creaky boards I've been here so many times I could easily tell which was which even in the dark. I cringed when the door creaked slightly as I opened it. I waited and listened for any noises in protest to the creaking. None. I increased my pace as realization hit me I might actually be free soon, tears ran down my cheeks as I ran out the open door as fast and quietly as I could. The wind pricked my skin spreading goosebumps in its wake, whipping through my hair as I made my way to the treeline.

I stopped when I reached the treeline wiping my tears and shedded my tattered clothes behind a tree. I don't need them more ripped than they already are, I stuffed them in my bag as carefully as possible. I began focusing on my wolf form, I doubt I would be able to get far in my human form, it was a bit difficult seeing I hadn't done this in a while. My bones popped and moved in place causing a lot more pain than it would have but I endured it and after a while, I was standing on all fours, my rich brown fur blowing in the wind. My wolf form was almost as skinny as my human form for obvious reasons, but thanks to wolf metabolism it was stronger.

I picked my bag and ran. We ran as fast as we could away from the prison I called a pack. I stopped when I reached the pack borderline.

And for a moment I thought about it, was I really going to run away from the pack I'm destined to lead?

The ache in my heart was my answer.

Neveah, Xavier broke our heart. Run, run as fast as you can from this pack. Her tone was like nothing I had ever heard from her.

I stopped when I felt my bond to the pack snap as I crossed over the border. I was a rogue now, no pack to rule me anymore. I only have Athena left. Athena forced a sorrowful howl through my jaws as we continued our escape. I finally stopped running after a while, panting. I don't know how far I got from my old pack, but I think it's far enough for now. I shifted back to my human form and quickly put my clothes back on and zipped the bag up.

I looked around for a good tree to climb. I spotted one a few yards away and walked to it and started climbing it, with my bag slung to my back. I climbed to nearly the top of the tree, but low enough to find a big and sturdy branch to sleep on. I hung my bag on a branch above me and straddled the branch, facing away from the tree.

I grabbed a slice of bread and slowly ate it before slumping down to sleep, hoping I wouldn't fall to my death.

~time skip to morning~

I woke up to the sounds of birds chirping.

Nav!

Jesus Athena! You scared me!

Haha. But seriously, get up and get out of here, now! There are rogues near here and they will be able to smell you soon if you don't start running!

I start panicking, will they smell me and come to find me?

I grabbed my bag and as fast as I could(but still really slowly) I climbed down. I immediately shift, not worrying about my already ripped clothing. I grab my bag and set off running again. I'm zig-zagging through the trees when I hear paws thundering their way towards me.

It's the rogues! Athena, I need you to take over and get us out of here safely!

No reply.

Athena! Get your lazy butt out of the back of my head and save us!

Ok ok, geesh.

I feel myself move to the back of my mind as I let Athena take over. Now all I can do is see and hear, nothing else, Athena is in controls of our actions. With her in control, she can run faster than I can so I hear the paws getting quieter as time passes.

I try to focus on seeing where Athena is taking us, but everything is a blur.

How fast is she going? Even if a wolf takes over their body they wouldn't be able to go this fast.

Suddenly I hear the paws getting closer to us.

Athena! Go faster! Or they'll catch us! I don't feel like having rogues cornering us.

Yeah I know, I'm not stupid! My energy is running out fast! I need to find us a safe place quick, or else you'll have to take over and they'll for sure get us.

I hear 2 wolves running beside us a few yards away.

Oh no.

I think there's a valley down here that we can find a place to hide in.

Ok just find one quick! Their right beside us! Please! If I were in control and in human form, I would be crying.

Athena begins zagging through the trees to throw them off our trail. It worked, for now.

I allow myself to relax for a few minutes. I close my 'eyes' so I can try to relax. A low rumble makes me open them.

Was that thunder? I heard it again.

Oh no. It's one of the wolves growling at us! I began to mentally hyperventilate.

Athena abruptly stopped. I looked through my eyes to see a stone wall in front of us. Athena turned around, they had all caught up and cornered us in this valley.

Athena lowered her head and growled lowly as she backed away, stopping just before the wall.

The middle wolf, clearly the leader, shifted."Hello, there little she-wolf." His voice was not very appealing. Athena growled at him."Now now, I wouldn't be growling, I have you cornered, I could order them to rip your throat out and they would do so. Say, you look too small for a grown she-wolf. Did you run away from your pack? How disgraceful. Or did your mate reject you?" I whimpered as he talked about our mate.

"Ah, so it was your mate... Well, I guess there's not any more of a use for you. Boys have some fun. Its been a while since we've given someone a beating."
