~Warning~

Part of the chapter contains a brief episode of a panic attack. If you are sensitive to this kind of content then there are warnings at the beginning and end of the mentioned episode.

Nevaeh's POV

My hand rose, bringing Cody with it. He dangled in the air, looking utterly terrified.

"Nav! Nav! What are you doing?!" Sasha tried to help her mate, but the wind wouldn't let her through. She looked back at me, suddenly looking shocked, "Nav! Your eyes! They're, they're grey! What is happening? Put him down, please Nav!" I lowered my arm, making a silent command to the wind. Cody dropped to his knees, panting. I stumbled back, vision blurry. The room spun.

"N~v! A~ you ~k?!" The voices surrounding me sounded watery, blobs coming towards me. Then, blackness.

~Time skip brought to you by Xavier's stupidity~

I groaned. Moving my body sideways I slowly fluttered my eyes open. I sat up on my elbows, looking around. Sasha was laying beside me asleep, dried tear tracks staining her face. Shaking her side, I try to wake her up and figure out how long I was out. "Navaeh?" Her sleep-filled voice called out, "Nav! Your up, thank goodness!" Sasha looked so stressed and ready to cry as soon as she was set off. "How long was I out?" I rub my forehead slowly. "Three days, are you feeling ok? Why did this happen? Do you need me to go get you some medicine? Wh-" I cut her off, "I'm ok Sash. I honestly don't know, this has never happened before. And no, I don't need medicine. I'll be fine. Thank you for your concern though Sash." Turning, she joins me in a hug that fills my body with warmth.

"Ok, lovebirds it's morning and time for breakfast." Cody leaned against the doorframe, staring at our conjoined forms with raised eyebrows. Sasha and I untangled our limbs, laughing when a few joints popped. I swung my legs over the side of the bed, I was wearing different clothing than before, must have been Sasha. I slowly rose, legs shaking, I knew it would happen but Sasha caught me before I fell onto the hardwood floor. "Thanks, Sash." "No problem." We both headed out to the kitchen when I could stand on my own. I easily found the food, hunger leading the way. I mean, come on, wouldn't you know right where the food was when you haven't eaten in about three or four days? Thought so.

I sat down, immediately digging into the delicious food. Laughter rang through the air. I looked up guiltily with food crammed in my mouth. "Wot?" More laughter came from Sasha and Cody. "Nothing, just carry on," Cody fell out of his chair from laughter. A knock stopped our festive atmosphere. Cody stood up and went to go see who it was. I heard him ask, then he opened the door, bringing a wave of power throughout the house. Sasha gasped and stood up, pulling me by my arms to her bedroom. "Stay here and don't come out, please." Her voice dripped with terror and concern, "Why?" "It's Alpha Xavier." I understood and nodded, letting her leave.

~Mentioned attack below~ You can skip to the next words that are in bold/italics/underlined

Yelling, lots of yelling. That's all I heard. Flashbacks of past beating are all I saw. My hands cradled my head. The voices mixed with the yelling from the living room. They kept coming, each one appearing faster than the last. My breathing became faster and faster until it sounded like I had just finished running a marathon. Minutes felt like hours. I'm sobbing on the floor at this point. An especially brutal flashback comes back, and I scream. Loud and deafening, the whole pack was probably thinking someone was being murdered.

Loud footsteps get louder as they rush to the room, but it's locked. A force bangs against the door, trying to break it open, over and over. I cry even more because my mind is making me think that the person across the door is going to hurt me. I curl into the fetal position and cover my ears, letting out another ear-piercing scream. I can't breathe, gasping for air. Hands roam my body, trying to help me but my body is thinking otherwise. "No no no no no! Please! Stop it!" "Nav! Nav! It's just me, calm down! I'm right here, it's me, Sasha. Your best friend. See, it's just me. Now breathe, in and out, in and out," Sasha's calm and tender tone helps bring me out of my flashbacks," That's it, in and out." I slowly begin to breathe more with Sasha's help. When I finally open my eyes my head is in Sasha's lap with her tenderly stroking my head. Looking around it seems most of the pack is in or outside of Sasha's room, looking very worried. Why are they worried though, all of them hate me and had always hit me.

~End of sensitive content~

"Are you ok now?" "What happened?" "Isn't that our servant that ran away a few weeks ago?" "Who's that with her?" "You dummy that's her only friend." Questions swarmed the air, freaking me out. "Everyone quiet! She's ok, as you can see. Now please leave, this does not concern any of you." Xavier's deep but somewhat different voice commanded. "Alpha I have a question." "Ok, shoot." "Is she the servant that ran away weeks ago?" Xavier sighed, hand falling down his face clearly annoyed by the question, "Yes, she is. But she will no longer be the pack's servant, and we will no longer have servants. It's too cruel." The man who asked the question left. A lingering woman raised her hand. "Yes?" "Is she our Luna?" Xavier looked at me, "If she is willing to forgive Xavier's mistake and be our mate then yes, yes she is- will be." The woman gasped and left in shock.

By now Sasha and I are standing, although I almost faint, again, from the shock. Xavier wants me back? Many emotions are running through my head. Xavier cautiously walks towards me, almost like I might break at the slightest touch. He reaches out for me, but I flinch. His eyes drowned in hurt because I was afraid of him and he knew it. "Navaeh. Please listen to me. I know Xavier hurt you, but please give us a chance, he's just confused and not in his right state of mind." He reaches out his hand, expecting me to take it. I contemplate, go to my mate, who rejected me and hit me whenever he felt like it and potentially live in fear again, or walk off and be mateless forever with a very small chance of a second-chance mate because my first one is alive. I do reach out my hand looking into his hopeful eyes only to lower his hand with my own. I take a deep breath for the rant I'm about to lay upon him," You really think I'm going to just take you back after all that has happened? You've beaten me for years over the littlest of things. You've rejected me because I'm apparently weak," Shaking my head disappointingly I continue," And now you want me back after I'm gone for what, three weeks? Guess what, buddy, it's gonna take a lot more than a stupid apology for me to get over your rejection and even think about taking you back. If you really want me back you're going to have to work real hard to win me over. I am done with being weak! I am not going to let you push me around again and if you do there is no chance of me ever being your Luna! You got that?!" Panting I glare at Xavier who has a deer-in-the-headlights look.

"Y-yeah, I got it." Xavier slumped out, tears clear as day in his glossy eyes. Slow clapping makes me look up, Cody and Sasha look proud of me, "What?" Why are they proud of me, I did nothing. "You just stood up for yourself for the first time, I couldn't be more proud," Sasha stops to wipe her eyes. "Why are you clapping Cody?" "Because I have never seen someone stand up for themselves from Ares or Xavier. It was truly a sight."

"Come on, you look exhausted, let me take you to your actual room." Sasha gently grabs my arm and leads me to the spare room I occasionally used. She dragged me to the bed, swept the covers back, laid me down and pulled the covers to my shoulders, just how I like it. "Sleep, you need it." "Ok, wake me up for lunch though." "You got it!" She left quietly, leaving me alone.

Does he really want me back? Or am I just a prize to win? Mates are supposed to love you for who you are, so why doesn't Xavier love me for me?

I don't know, but I guess we'll see, now won't we?

I guess.

I really do need sleep, so I can be away from the world I never loved, at least for a little while. With tired eyes, I turn over and drift into a dreamless sleep.

Ares's POV

Shutting the door and walking away from my mate is one of the hardest things I have ever done. She yelled at me, but I'm not mad, I deserved it. Xavier made mistakes and now both of us have to pay for it.

What I did was not a mistake, it was getting rid of clutter.

Ou-my mate is not something you can just get rid of, she is not property. I thought our parents taught you better than this.

They did teach me, I just have my own opinion and that is that the bearer of the future Alpha should be strong and worthy of the title and position of Luna. Not a weak Omega who wouldn't even make it through her pregnancy.

When will you ever learn?! If she was chosen as our mate then she is strong enough to bear our children! Mates are chosen for each other for a reason.

I shut off our link, not wanting to listen to his messed up ways. Sighing, I continue the paperwork over appointing the training Warriors. Most look like they would be good Warriors, but a few I'll need to let off. Oh, and I need to plan Cody's Beta Ceremony. I don't really enjoy the idea of slashing my hand, but it has to be done, the pack needs a Beta.

Hey Alpha.

Speak of the devil and he shall appear. I let Xavier take care of Cody while I finish the paperwork. While listening in of course.

How many times do I need to tell you Cod (Pronounced like code.) to not call me Alpha.

But that's exactly why I do it. His joy at my annoyance was sickening. Anyway, I linked you for an important announcement.

Which is? Get on with it.

I found my mate.

You don't sound too happy, is something wrong with her?

Oh! No, it's just. . . It's you who might have a problem with her. I'm getting fed up with his mystery mate.

And why would I have a problem with the future Beta Female?

She sorta might be Neveah Woods' best friend, Sasha Blaque.

You've got to be kidding me. My hand wipes around my face annoyedly.

Not one bit.

Well, I don't think I'll have a problem with her so you can go bounce over to your little mate.

Ok, thanks. See ya at the ceremony!

Yeah, see you then.

I cut off the link.

Great, now I have to add in our new Beta Female into the ceremony.

By you, you mean me right? I'm not letting you back in control for a while.

Whatever.

It's hard arguing with your wolf or human side. It's like having an inner battle with the other half of your soul. Sometimes the arguing becomes so great the one in control kills themselves because they can't bear to fight with their soul. I'm hoping we can resolve this soon before one of us has a notion to do that.
