Chapter 28
It was his mission, he thought. If it’s a mission, it has to be completed.
Lee sat in the public library, half an hour’s drive from his ‘home’. He still didn’t actually think of it as his home, not that he let people know that. His only home was back in the Fire Country, no matter where he went. He was a part of the Hidden Leaf Village, and that’s where he wanted to stay.
Not that he was. He was in a library, second floor, reading a humungous book about dimensions and dimensionally travelling. Man, it was confusing. He had no clue what it was going on about. All he wanted to know is if someone got somewhere by dimensionally travelling, how to they get back? That’s all he needed to know! Not who’s inventing time machines, and how people say it’s a load of baloney. Lee knew it was true, I mean, he was standing in a new dimension as he read! He was standing in Japan, and Lee thought it was an awesome name for a place. He had seen a globe sitting on one of the reading desks, and after close study it revealed incredible new lands, with all new names like Japan, England, Australia, Antarctica, America, Asia, China, Europe, the list went on. There were hundreds and hundreds of names, all different, and it was incredible for him to see. Now he knew what kind of a world he was in, and that gave him more courage to get home, for some reason.
The more he read, the more confused he became, and also the more he thought about Naruto and all his friends in the Leaf. Were they okay? Was Naruto okay? He had asked himself all these questions so many times. Was Naruto in this dimension? What was he doing? Was he staying with someone? Where was he? This world was so big, and he could be anywhere. For all Lee knew, he could be on the other side of the world.
“Why does this have to be so confusing?” he asked himself, rubbing his forehead as he read. He had read over thirteen books just on dimensions alone. The chapter he was reading now was about some random wore when he tried to dimensionally travel, and how that could’ve altered the fact that it didn’t work instead of it working. I mean, who cares what he wore? It didn’t work, and that’s that.
“Sir, could I help you?” Lee looked up to see a librarian looking at him with a professional yet kind smile. She seemed to guess he was having a hard time by the large stack of books on the table he had already read. He shook his head sadly.
“Not unless you know how to dimensionally travel so I can get home.” He replied, and laughed a little. She looked confused at his remark, but continued on with her work otherwise. Lee shut the book, finishing it finally.
Lee had also found out that people in this world didn’t have chakra networks, and couldn’t use chakra or jutsu at all. In fact, nothing like that existed. It was great. For once he felt like he fit in perfectly.
He stood up, stretching, and began to make his way down to go to the first floor. He had been in the library all day, and he had enough of reading for one day. He would have to come back some other time.
Lee passed the manga section as he walked past. He was almost passed it when suddenly something caught his eye. He stopped and took a closer look at one of the books on the shelf, obviously out of its place. The name made his eyes widen. It said:
Naruto Shippuden, book 62
What? Naruto? How strange! There was a book with Naruto’s name on it, spelt the same way, and had a tiny picture of a boy on the bottom. He couldn’t see it very well from where he was standing, but he could tell the boy had spiky blonde hair.
That’s weird, Lee thought. The name Naruto and a picture of a blonde like that on the bottom, it’s almost as if…
He walked over to check out the book, in curiosity. How strange that would be if the boy were Naruto and… weird.
“Lee! Hurry up! We’re leaving, now!” Lee heard Elliot’s snappy voice on the first floor. Even though he was on the first floor, Lee could tell he was tapping his foot impatiently, waiting. Lee stopped and hesitated. Take a quick peek at the book, or… hmm…
“Coming!” he called back, and left the book as he hurried down the stairs. Oh well. It was just a book. Coincidence. He didn’t know why he paid so much attention to it in the first place.
It was just a book, right guys?
