Chapter 35

When they quieted down Liam continued, "the ceremony will take place here at the palace in eight days. I hope you all decide to join us and tell the others who weren't here today about it. Spread the word. Now shall we start this ceremony?"

There was a chorus of yes. Someone brought a goblet and knife up to the stage and sat them on a stool that appeared beside him as well.

"We are here to welcome new members to our kingdom including your queen. You have all gone through many hardships and we are glad you have decided to join our kingdom. You will have many opportunities here and we welcome everyone, whether you're a werewolf, vampire, fae, troll, or any other species you have a home here. When we call your name step up to the stairs and come across the stage here to the middle where you will cut your finger and hold over this goblet."

"First person," Liam announced turning to me, "future Alpha Queen Skylar." His eyes sparkled as they gazed at me. I could tell how excited he was for me to officially join his pack and kingdom. He took my hand instead of giving me the knife like he would have done with everyone else. "Skylar, do you promise to follow our packs laws and protect and defend this kingdom at all costs."

I gave him my nod, "I do."

He cut my middle finger and I winced. He held it over the goblet and let a few drops drop in before pulling my hand away and kissed my finger which is something else he would not do with anyone else. Some blood was left behind on his lips and I felt an instant connection with the rest of the pack. Many voices started breaking through in my mind but I remembered what Liam said earlier about blocking out the voices. I imagined a wall and pushed it up between me and them. The voices disappeared after a couple of tries and Liam could tell when that happened because my eyes cleared and he smiled. "Welcome to the kingdom Skylar."

People cheered for me and I smiled and waved at them. I stepped back and watched as someone called a name a person took my old spot on the stage.

Liam repeated the same words but let the person cut their own hand and he obviously didn't kiss it. He had also kissed mine because my blood allowed me earlier into the pack and so I could drink out of the goblet later that night and have a smoother transition.

There were many names on the list. It took a long time for us to get through them all, two hours actually. Finally, the last person walked off the stage and joined the crowd.

Liam stepped back up and at his gesture, I stepped up with him. He took the goblet in his hands and said, "this cup contains all your blood. When we drink out of it you will have a connection with all the pack members." After he finished speaking he drank half of it. He handed the cup to me and I took it but stared at it. "It's alright," he whispered to me, "it's not that bad. Just do your best to not think about it."

Yeah, try not to think about it. Yeah right, how could I not? It's blood! But I took his courage and just forced myself to drink without thinking about it.

It was disgusting, very thick and coppery. But as soon as I drank it I could feel all the new pack members added. I did my best to not show what I was really feeling to the crowd as I digested it. I honestly felt like I was going to throw up, luckily I didn't. Liam took the goblet out of my hands and squeezed one of mine and then placed the goblet on the stool once more.

He then turned to the crowd and said, "officially welcome to the pack. If you decided not to join this month, that's alright because I understand if you need more of a feel of the place. You can join next month when we do this again. Otherwise, we shall celebrate with dinner in the dining hall now. If you want to join us you are more than welcome to. We have plenty of food for everyone."

That was when we left the stage. I quickly followed behind Liam as we exited and returned to the palace. He led the way to the massive dining hall and people started filling in behind us.
