The Myth that Became Real

Chapter 35

I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to eat after drinking that blood but I was eager to get rid of the taste, even if all that was left in my was imaginary. I could hear how excited everyone was, both in my mind and behind me and it made me smile. I blocked them out of my mind however when we reached the dining hall.

I took comfort in the fact Liam was beside me and I grabbed his hand. He looked down at me smiling softly with love in his eyes. You did great today you know, he said through our bond.

I squeezed his hand happy he thought so. I thought I would have made a fool of myself at some point but I'm glad I didn't. I laid my head on his shoulder and the doors opened to the hall.

The dining hall was massive, definitely the biggest room I had ever seen but I guess it had to be because it was a makeshift one for today because this room was usually used for many events like parties or meetings with the people I have learned. The celebration of our ceremony was going to take place here as well. I was not aware quite yet where the ceremony was going to take place but I knew I would learn soon enough.

The doors that were connected to the gardens with this room were open as well as allowing more party space. The ceiling also had to be at least forty feet high if not more. At the front of the room was a long set of tables set a few steps above the ground level which was where I guessed we sat at and scattered throughout the space were many tables with table clothes covering to the seat and with a small dance floor area in the middle. Also along the sides of the walls were buffet areas set up. Some of them were set up specifically for certain species for the particular kinds of food they eat or drink. There was literally something there to eat for everyone.

Liam pulled me toward the front and many others filed in behind us and started taking seats. The front table had seats on both sides so it wasn't just one long row on one side which I was happy about. He took me around the table and to the middle two seats. We sat down and I sat there waiting for whatever came next.

Liam's family showed up at our table and a smile instantly grew on my face. Even in the few short days that I've known them, they were already starting to feel like family.

I stood up and hugged Mia when she came over. "You did so well Skylar! I'm impressed. I don't know if I could have done what you just did."

I pulled back surprised, "really?" I never thought that there wasn't anything this woman couldn't do. She seemed so strong.

Her smile dimmed a little as she said, "yeah, there is no way I would ever get close to drinking blood. Luckily in our pack, we don't have to do that. When we introduce new members all Adam and the new person has to do is slit their hands and shake, that's it."

I wondered what was wrong because she didn't seem as bright as she use to but I let that slide sensing she didn't want to talk about it.

"Well then," I replied smiling trying to lighten the mood even though I probably failed, "aren't you lucky."

She tried smiling a bit but failed, "I guess." She shook her head, "but let's not talk about me. We need to talk about you. We have a lot more to do in the next few days and we need to make the ceremony perfect."

I sighed but laughed a little, "alright, we can do that, but only for part of dinner, please? I don't want it to take up the whole time. We can do that tomorrow."

Mia nodded in agreement, "okay, sounds good to me. I'll just go sit down across the table from you then." She left and rounded the table to do just that.

I glanced out to the crowd of all the people who decided to join this celebration. There were still many people coming through the doors and taking seats, it was about half filled now. A familiar scent then washed over me and a finger poked me in the side. I yelped and turned around to glare at the person. "Really? That's how you greet me after all this time?" Plus I was super sensitive about being tickled and that wasn't really welcomed, or actually, it never was.
