"There's no way you're leaving me behind," Bailey answered, "I'm most certainly coming."
I gave her a nod and turned to Lia who was looking relieved. "Thank you, I think I'll stay here and help Mia or go back home to check on Tyler. He wasn't looking that great when I left him with the babysitter."
I gave them a nod and said, "I'll see you soon. It was nice meeting you Lia, I wish it was under better circumstances." I then dashed out the door with Bailey behind me.
I ran straight for the border with Bailey right beside me. I kept pace with her but it was hard holding back, especially because of the situation. But I did use this time to contact Liam with our mate bond. We were almost there when he answered he would be there as soon as possible. He may have also mentioned not to do anything without him but I obviously didn't listen.
When the guards saw who was approaching, they didn't try to stop me after I sent them a message through the pack link I was going through, nor would I have let them stop me. I knew by now after all the training Liam has put me through and being an Owatt I probably could have taken them. But I wouldn't have to fight them anyways if I used an order. There definitely were some perks being the to be queen.
I ran right through the gate without hesitation and came to a sudden stop at the horror I saw on the other side. No wonder Lia looked the way she did, there was blood everywhere! It looked like a massacre had occurred without the bodies. And the smell, it was awful. The coppery smell filled the clearing. Behind me, I heard a gasp.
That's what knocked me out of my trance as I turned around to face Bailey who was coming through the gate at that moment. Her hand covered her mouth as she scanned the forest worriedly, "what happened here?"
"I don't know," I whispered turning back around, my voice lost. What did happen? How could this have happened? After a few moments more, I finally found my voice again and answered in a steel like voice after gearing myself up, "but we're going to find out. Come on."
I marched further into the forest, that was the only way I could describe my stiff like movements as I proceeded. I tried concentrating on something other than the smell of blood but it was quite hard considering that was what was overpowering everything. I searched for another smell, anything other than blood and slowly something else started seeping through, something other than Bailey. Something... familiar. I extended my hearing out as well to see if there was anything else alive. It took a moment and I listened hard and then I heard a soft sound a... heartbeat. Or maybe two. One was weak but it was there.
I quickly followed the sound without an explaination to Bailey but she followed quickly behind me without a word, understanding dawning on her. It only took a few seconds before I finally caught up to the source. When I did, I froze.
In front of me, there were two people, no, not people, owatts. The first owatts I came across, if it wasn't for their scent for knowing what they were, I would have known just from their blue eyes. They were unique, like apparently all owatts because we all have unique blue eyes. I quickly shook myself out of shock of seeing two other owatts other than myself and Liam and took in the situation.
The female was standing over a male protectively, eyes wild and ready to kill. Her shoulder was bleeding, the worst of her injuries by the look of it but the male was in a much worse situation. He wasn't moving and gushing blood from his side. Why wasn't he healing? Why weren't they both healing? We had super healing, however long they've been like this they should be on the healing process right now.
In the distance, I hear Liam call my name but I didn't yell back because he quickly said in my head, you were supposed to wait for me!
You better hurry, I told him urgently. Something in my voice probably alerted him to the danger and he didn't speak another word about it. I projected the image of the scene in front of me to him. He definitely didn't argue with me after that.
