I'll be there in a few, he responded. After this, I tried to assess the situation.
I slowly took a step toward them and the female growled wildly and hissed almost jumping from her spot to attack. I instantly raised my hands in the universal I will not harm you position and froze. "It's okay," I soothed, "I'm not going to hurt you. I'm trying to help you."
She hissed in response and Bailey stepped toward me. I held my arm up in her direction stopping her in her tracks. I then extended an arm toward her slowly. "I won't hurt you. I'm like you, see? I'm an owatt as well."
Her eyes seemed to clear slowly and her stance relaxed when she sniffed the air, smelling what I said to be true. When I felt like it was safe for me to continue on I asked, "what happened here?"
"Hunters," she spit out. "We- we heard about some world near here an-and thought it would be safe for us bu-but my mate. He got hurt. Some hunters caught us. Ple-please help him!" She was pretty much crying at the end when she started talking about her mate.
"I wi-" I was interrupted though by the arrival of Liam. He was suddenly by my side and the girl went back into defensive mode.
I put my hand against Liam's chest and held out an arm toward the woman again and said soothingly again, "it's alright, it's alright. This is just Liam. He's my mate."
The girl slowly relaxed again and then her mate coughed, she instantly started working about him again and stroked his cheek. "Shh baby, it's going to be okay. We have help now. You're going to get better."
He took a deep breath wheezing and answered, "good. I better because..... I'm not.... letting you die.... as well." His own arm reached up and brushed his thumb across her cheek. "I love you."
"I love you," she whispered. I felt bad on intruding on their private moment but we had to. I knew Liam felt the same way as well. I stepped toward them again and the woman didn't make a move until I was crouching right beside them. She looked up and I put a hand lightly on her arm.
"We have doctors on the way," Liam announced coming to stand beside me and putting a hand on my shoulder. "They'll help him."
I nodded in agreement and asked softly, "can you tell me your names?"
She took a breath and then agreed, "I'm Rebecca. And my mate's name is Jaxon."
"Well Rebecca, I'm Skylar and I already told you my mate's name is Liam. Behind us is my best friend Bailey. The doctors will be here soon. Is there anything else you can tell us about what happened?" Like how was there blood everywhere?
"The hunters," Rebecca whispered, "they followed us here..." She deflated. "I'm so sorry. But I don't think they know where the world is. Wherever that is." When she saw the alarmed expression on my face she added quickly, "they're long gone by now. Don't worry. They thought they killed my mate and that was enough for them believing I would leave right behind him. Luckily, that hasn't happened. Yet."
Liam was instantly on guard after her first sentence and started scanning the forest. He growled after a moment and exclaimed, "let's go!"
He bent down next to us and looked at the two newcomers apologetically. "I'm sorry. But I need to carry him. We need to get out here in case they are still around. You'll be safe in our kingdom, they can't pass through the gate."
Rebecca was reluctant but she eventually agreed. "Alright, please hurry."
"We can meet the doctor halfway as well," he added. Slowly, he slid his arms under Jaxon and picked him up gently, jostling him as little as possible. Jaxon winced but otherwise did not show any other signs of pain even though he must be in tremendous pain.
"Hurry," he ordered and started racing for the gate trying not to hurt Jaxon as much as possible.
Bailey ran on ahead on silent demand and I followed in the back keeping a watch behind to make sure nothing was there. Even though the gate wasn't that far, it seemed to take forever to get there, probably because my anxiety seemed to slow the time down. Everyone went through, one by one until I was finally the last one through.
Next, everything to pass by in a blur. The guards were instantly at our side and by order of Liam, shut the gate down. No one was coming or going for a while, not unless Liam allowed it.
The doctor arrived at the same time as well and in an ambulance most likely hijacked from Earth like all the vehicles here and many other items. Sometimes it's just easier to bring it over with you. Jaxon was put on a stretcher and Rebecca jumped in the back with him. "Thank you," she whispered to us before the doors closed and they were racing off toward the hospital.
Now that we were all finally safe, I felt like I could breathe again. As Liam wrapped his arm around me and pulled me tightly to his side, a few questions burned through my mind, the most prominent being, how were we going to stop this from happening again? And were we really safe?

Yikes! I know this is super late and I am super sorry but I have been super busy lately with the end of the semester coming up and this being finals week and there being a holiday as well. I know I used super a lot lol and I am kind of rambling but I am sorry. I am trying my best to update, instead of studying like I should have today, I worked on this chapter instead because I really needed to. Anyways, please forgive. And what did you think of this chapter? Did you like it? What do you think is going to happen? Again, I'm sorry and I hope to update very soon.
