"I'll be right outside if you have any questions, Dr. Kavin." Connor reminded Bernadette as he made his way to the front door and close it behind himself. Don't regret your decision, Connor.
(Y/n)'s POV
You were thankful that Connor listened to you for this interview because you could clearly see that there was something going on with Dr. Kavin and her husband. "Bernadette, do you think I can speak with your husband for a short minute? He seems to be slightly involved so I'd like to get his input as well." You politely asked.
"M-My husband?" She shot her glance from you to the upstairs area.
"Yes, Mr. Kavin. If I'm correct, you said he was here when we first came in." You recalled.
"Ah, y-yes. I can go get him right now." She forced a smile on her face as she set her cup down on the coffee table. You watched her as she slowly made her way up the staircase and disappear behind the hallway wall. Feeling slightly awkward from sitting alone in the living room, you stood up and continued to look around.
The house was warm and welcoming with almost what seemed like a ranch styled feel to the interior. Pictures decorated the beige walls. Ones of what you assumed to be her family. From the images, her mother is out of the picture, but her father still seems to be in contact. She has two younger siblings; both being brothers. As for the rest of the photos, they consisted of friends and close peers. Willamina was in a few of these pictures next to a rather fine-looking man.
As you were looking further at the picture containing the victim, a sudden thud sounded from upstairs. Taking quick action, you rush up the flight of stair and start barging into every room until you found Bernadette panting in a corner, a chair was flipped upside down across the room where a tall man stood. His dark skin contrasted from the eggshell white walls. His eyes reminded you of dark chocolate. His jawline was so well defined that you could mistake it to be... handcrafted... I recognize him.
"Bernadette..." You began to stand up straight from your stance beforehand. "Is your husband..."
"Is he a what? What are you trying to accuse us of huh? Go on then, spill it out!"
"Is he an HR400 model from The Eden Club?" You hesitantly interrogated. The two looked at each other. Spontaneously, they both darted for the door. Luckily, your quick reflexes jumped into overdrive and shut them in the bedroom before they could make any rash mistakes. "Wait! Just wait a second. You don't have to worry. I promise on my life that I will not tell anyone you're married to a deviant."
"How can we trust you, detective!" Bernadette spat.
"Because I'm also involved with a deviant. Well, not 'involved' but like, you know, God never mind it sounds wrong anyway I put it. Her name is Mariella. At the moment, I helped another deviant escape from a crime scene and he is now staying in my house. I could call and confirm everything that I just told you." You explained trying to persuade them to believe you.
"Say we did trust you, how can we know if you're not going to go behind our backs to save yours!" The deviant furrowed his eyebrows holding the doctor with the intent to protect her.
"I'm not that kind of person. Especially since I'm already under investigation for saving the other android." You backed up your point even further.
"Okay fine. You have our trust. What do you want?" Bernadette snapped.
"I just want to know about your past. The past that you were hiding earlier due to Connor. Mind you, I am still a detective as you pointed out not too long ago. I still have a homicide on my hands, and I need to find the culprit." You reminded.
"How does knowing my background involve a murder?" She asked confused.
"Because you said you had a close relationship with her along with your husband here." You shot a glance at the broad man in an unbuttoned red flannel with a grey t-shirt underneath it with a pair of dark blue jeans in fuzzy socks with images of penguins on the toes. "So please just help me out here. I just want to go back home to my mom and help her with our new 'housemate'."
"An Android as a mom? That's a new one." She crossed her arms.
"Again, a long story. Please, you have to believe me." You begged.
"Okay fine." Bernadette reluctantly accepted and led her husband and you down the steps again in the living room again only this time you switched seating arrangements where you were sitting in the armchair and her husband and she was sitting on the long couch. She picked up her cup of lukewarm tea and curled up next to the newly discovered deviant. After taking a sip, she lowered her cup and spoke. "What do you want to know?"
"Let's start when you first met the victim." You started to lean forward as if you were a therapist in a session with a client.
"I met Willamina when I met Taylor." She answered as she looked up at the deviant that you now knew as Taylor. "I bumped into her at the Eden club. It was a pretty funny story how that came to be. But that's beside the point. We grew to be best of friends. She helped me when I was drowning in debt, she helped me when I wanted to elope with Taylor, but most of all she helped me cope with leaving my husband and daughter."
"Are you saying you had a husband before Taylor?" You grew more interested than before.
"Yes, I was married to him for three years. One day though, he asked for a family. He wanted to spend the rest of our days with children running about. I wanted the opposite. I wasn't ready for kids, nor did I think I would be right for the mother role. But I sucked it up and got pregnant anyway. I figured that everything I was thinking was just because I was scared I'd turn into my mother." Bernadette explained.
As she explained her background, the storyline clicked into something similar in your head. There's no possible way. It can't be. Your head began to spin. Your thoughts began to bounce all over the place. You weren't so sure what to believe anymore. Finally, you calmed down to hear the rest of the story to see if your point could be proven correct. The point you were partially excited yet partially terrified to prove.
"Once the baby was born I just couldn't face it. Holding my little girl in my hands while my husband was right beside me, it all just seemed... wrong. I was cheating on my husband with Taylor. I didn't want a family... nor did I want my husband. So I left. I helped Taylor escape from The Eden Club and made a quick dash to Mina's house. With her help, I never saw them again. I'm not sure if I could ever face them after what I most likely put them through." She wrapped up her story.
Your hands started to sweat and tremble. Gripping so hard that you could swear your nails were cutting the skin on your palm. The words you were so desperately trying to get out cracked as they left your dry mouth, but it seemed that Bernadette hadn't noticed. "What was your husband's name?"
"Delton (L/n)."
A/N: HEYO!! Sorry, got a bit excited there. Heyo. It's good to be back. I hope ya'll enjoyed the chapter. I had a buttload of fun writing it. Were you guys expecting that twist? You probably were lol I'm bad at subtly hinting at things. Until next Monday... Chow! ^_~
