I stepped out of the bathroom with my costume on: Alice's blue dress and apron with her back headband. Very short skirt... and a low cut collar. Someone kill me.
Once the gates open, I was put at work. First order: caramel latte. Easy. I boil the water in the kettle, press the espresso, froth the milk, add caramel simple syrup, pour milk with a leaf design, and hand it to the waiters.
The other kid, I forgot his name, he is helping me with the orders. The waiters give a piece of paper with the orders and the table number. We make the orders, give them to the waiters, along with the piece of paper with the table number, and they deliver them. Our class so far is a huge hit.
We have costumes of the Cheshire Cat, White Rabbit, Day and Night, Queen of Hearts, The Caterpillar, and the Mad Hatter. Since the class has more than just seven people, others have dressed as playing cards and rabbits. I don't know why the suggestion was so popular for me to be Alice.
The café in a big hit. People are waiting in the hallway to get in and have a table. I can hear some of the conversations from my spot. "The decorations are so amazing!" I can hear them say. "I love the costumes" and "everyone is so nice". Before the festival started, Misaki went into each classroom and gave a strong talk to the boys about how to "properly" talk to girls. I think her efforts really paid off.
At one point, Misaki walked into the cafe, just as she said she would. "You guys have been such a big hit! Great work [y/n]!" She smiles to me.
"It wasn't all me," I say. "The waiters do the actual talking. Thank them." I say humbly.
"Oh alright. Anyway, I've come to help like I said." She says and puts her hands on her hips.
"Oh, okay." I smile. We have a spare rose costume over there. I think it might be your size." I say as I push down the french press.
Misaki walks off, grabs the costume, and leaves to change into it. I go through about four paper orders before I see Misaki in the door way. "I don't know [y/n], I feel like it is a little tight." Misaki says and steps in the door way.
I think the entire room stopped and stared at Misaki. She is beautiful. The dress has a black lace sheer neckline with a red waist and top layer fabric. The dress ends near her knees with the fabric white on the inside, like the partially red painted roses in the Queen of Heart's courtyard.
"You look beautiful, Misa." I say, but then realize what I said. Misaki tenses and looks at me. "Wait, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to call you..." I trailed off. Oh boy.
"You're fine. You can call me Misa." She smiles her lovely smile.
I show Misaki how to use the french presses and how to do latte art. After a while, she went off and preferred being a waitress. She looks so natural at the job. A little while later, I hand her a cup of coffee to deliver and she stops to look at me.
"[Y/n], you haven't got a chance to enjoy the festival yet, have you?" She asks me. No, I haven't, but I like it in here. "You should go and check out the rest of the school." She smiles. Ugh I can't say no to her. Plus, I have heard about the delicious food outside that I want to try.
"Okay," I say and take off my apron. "You should get someone to replace me though."
I walk out and change into my uniform, then set myself in the direction of the other classes. I end up running into Sakura and Shizuko and they end up following me. We played games, ate food, and even watched a play that the first years put on. I am having so much fun with them, that I forget my worries.
I stand back from afar and watch the bonfire, exhausted, but happy. I lean back against a tree and sit down, watching the students mess around and joke, sometimes laughing at their stupidity.
"Enjoying the night?" I hear a familiar voice.
"Hello Usui." I say without looking up. I can see him take off his bowtie as he sits with me. He dressed as the Mad Hatter with a purple coat and originally a top hat, but he must have taken it off earlier.
"You're an amazing person, [y/n]." Usui says. I turn around, startled. What did he just say? "Before you transferred, nothing was compromised and no one was satisfied. Not even Misaki could change that." He turned his body toward me and faced me. "You really are something." He placed his hands on either side of me. I pressed my back against the tree as he leaned in closer to me.
"What are you doing?" I ask him, panicked.
"You still owe me that kiss." I can feel his hot breath against my face. My heart is beating out of my chest and my face is burning.
"I'm just joking." He says and pulls away.
I'm stunned. I'm speechless. I-I don't know what to do.
"For someone as amazing as you, though, you can be so gullible." Usui says and walks away, leaving me sitting there, heart throbbing, and at a total loss.
