AVENGE THE FALLEN | AN ENDGAME READER INSERT STORY

You couldn't really run, and so you took to the skies. Rocket was on your shoulder, shouting below at Groot. As you landed in the trees, you noticed how Vision was holding his stomach, grunting in pain.

"Vis!" you cried. You ran to him, Rocket hopping off your shoulder. You grabbed his shoulders. "Are you okay?"

He nodded. Breathing heavily, he jerked his head to the left. "Bruce... Bruce was searching for you. Frantically. Go... go."

You nodded, pained. Squeezing his shoulder, you got up on your feet and limped further into the woods. By the time you got there, everyone was standing still.

"What is it?" you asked.

"Don't you feel that?" Nat said.

And you did. It sent shivers down your spine. There was a sudden silence, a deep kind that was such a strange contrast to the overwhelming noise of the battle you had just had.

Then someone stepped through a portal of swirling blue. A tall and wide, purple skinned figure with armor on.

"Cap, that's him," Bruce said.

The hair on the back of your neck stood. Your eyes flickered to the gauntlet, which held five out of the six Infinity Stones. The sight of the green stone made your knees weak.

"No," you breathed. "Oh, God, please no." Your eyes filled with tears as you whispered. Steve looked down at you, Rocket looked up. "My dad... my dad and Peter were the ones protecting that stone."

Steve, not knowing what to say, gulped and started to walk towards Thanos.

"Eyes up, stay sharp!" he ordered, and he broke out into a run.

Ignoring the tears in your eyes and the pain in your leg, you ran directly behind him, right towards Thanos. 

Bruce got to him first. Using the Space stone, he moved him easily and pushed him into a wall of stone. He used the Reality against Falcon.

When you launched off the ground, he tried to use the Space stone on you. The blue fog-like substance rising out of the gauntlet was absorbed in your skin. You screamed, throwing all of your remaining power into him. He deflected it with the Reality, then let you crumble before him.

You could see the way he looked at you when you fell, like he was praising you for a good try. He chuckled when he saw the blue light in your eyes, then picked you up and threw you at the wall of stone, next to Bruce.

You didn't sink into it. Your head hit it hard and you fell in your stomach, the breath getting knocked out of you.

The power within you made you want to get up. Thanos expected that, and using  one of the stones, he locked your limbs so you could not move.

You saw Nat fall on her back, stones coming up to block her from getting up, too.

Your team was losing. Easily. Thanos was beating you, and it was like he had to give no effort at all.

Steve had gotten back up and was standing in front of Thanos again. He grabbed the gauntlet with both of his hands. He was gritting his teeth and screaming. 

You tried to get up, but you were still locked down. 

Thanos was approaching Wanda and Vision. Tears filled your eyes; Wanda was removing the stone from Vision's head on her own. Because of your weakness and failure, you could not do it for her. 

She turned her head and saw Thanos. She pushed him with her power, holding him off as she finished destroying the Mind stone.

With a burst of light, it was destroyed, and Vision was dead. Wanda was on her hands and knees, shaking. Thanos touched her head gently.
