"Alright, we expect you to be back tomorrow, noon," Kenji told myself and Shikamaru, "as for that favour, don't worry, it's being handled."

Chouhei nodded and looked over to Ayanakoji.

"We'll be off then, or we won't have as long as we are supposed to have," Shikamaru announced before grabbing our bag and leading me away, I waved as I walked forward before sighing and shoving my hands into my pockets.

"I'm going to steal your old-fashioned words and say this whole situation is such a drag," I said with a yawn, "it's just too much effort if you ask me."

"Yeah, well, that's what happens," Shikamaru chuckled before looking into the lake, "it's strange how the ice has melted so much but you haven't felt any of the affects you should theoretically feel."

"That's true," I nodded, "from what I do or don't understand, when the ice melts, my life should deplete. Or if I die on the spot, the ice would just evaporate on the spot. I'm truly baffled that not only is the ice melting, but also that I am not able to feel the ice melting. It's really confusing me."

"Are you sure that you don't feel anything at all?" he asked, obstructing my line of vision with his own worried face.

"Certain," I replied, "by the way, I heard a little rumour... It has something to do with Gengo."

"Yes, but I can't tell you out here, who knows who can be listening," he replied, I nodded before jumping on him and grinning.

"I'm tired, carry me, Shika!" I whined, he chuckled before hooking his arms under my legs and held me up as I wrapped my arms loosely around his neck and kissed his cheek, "truly do adore you, my pineapple headed man."

"Again with the pineapple," he laughed, I looked out the corner of my eye to see him looking forward but smiling a really terribly hidden smile.

"You weren't lying when you said it takes so long to get over here," Shikamaru complained as he sat down, I just stayed silent and looked around the area before looking to the North.

"It's not too far to not be seen, but it's not too close to be heard or have your identity picked out," I mumbled to myself.

"Hello?" Shikamaru called, "are you listening?"

He was probably rambling about something while I was looking around but I'd completely zoned out as I looked around the area.

"Y/n!" Shikamaru grabbed me and shook me before stopping and laughing slightly, "I know you want to start on this straight away, but you need to make sure that you don't stumble into any traps, like... that one."

He pointed to a terribly hidden bear trap.

"A bear trap?" I asked, pulling a kunai out of my pouch and dropping it onto the metal trap. It snapped shut almost instantly.

"Thanks, that... would've been extremely painful," I smiled before looking around again, "there's a lot of them."

"I'm hoping it's just hunters and not the suspicious people," he replied with a sigh, "Might take a while to clear the place up though."

"No," I shook my head, "Shikamaru, use your brain, mark where they are, and we can use them as a protection or turn it as a trap of our own."

"Guess I'm just tired, I carried you the whole way over here, you know?" he poked me, "your turn to do some work."

I smiled innocently and shook my head.

"I'm going to look around," I told him before doing something I hadn't done in a while. I stepped into his shadow and moved to the shadow of the tree line near us.

Looking over to Shikamaru, I found him looking around frantically before he sighed and rubbed his head, turning around, clearly grumbling something to himself as he started to work.

I laughed to myself before turning around and starting to work as well.

We have to find something, or I don't know what I'm going to do. I can't let my family die, not after everything that's happened... No... I have to come to the bottom of this and if Ayanakoji is down there along with the truth, so help me there won't be a body to bury.

What am I saying? I'm not like that, or has that stupid war really changed me so much? Either way, Ayanakoji will regret deceiving me if he is the problem.
