Another Lapidot story

Peridot Pov:

Sitting in my afternoon classes all i could focus on was the light throbbing of my heart in my chest and the fact that Lapis actually agreed to be friends with me, and wants to go somewhere with me after school, Oh stars it's exciting. The second the bell rings i shoot up out of my seat and sling my bag over my shoulder, hurrying out of the class and out into the hallway, i hastily make my way to the front of the school and sit myself down on one of the benches outside of the front door. A short minute of waiting later i spot Lapis walking out of the front of the school, i get up and begin to make my way over to her, i can't help but feel a little nervous as i get closer to her.

As i approach her i raise my hand and wave a little "H-hey Lapis, so, um, where did you want to go?" she nods once as i wave at her "Oh, hey, i was just thinking the Big Donut really, unless you wanted to go somewhere specific?" i shake my head as i start to walk alongside her "No, the Big Donut sounds good" she nods again as we walk "alright then, let's head there now". While we walk we make basic small talk, talking about our classes and what teachers we have, that kind of stuff, after maybe about ten minutes we arrive at the Big Donut, Lapis pushes the door open and we head inside. 

Stepping up to the counter we're greeted by the short blonde girl working there "Hey there, can i take you guys' order?" Lapis nods as she starts rummaging her hand around in her pocket "Uh, yeah, i'll have a plain black coffee and, uh Peridot what do you want?" she asks as she turns to look at me "Oh, um, i guess i'll just have the same as you" she nods as she pulls her hand from her pocket, some money now in her palm, she turns back to the girl at the counter "Ok, make it two plain black coffees then" the girl behind the counter nods and smiles as she rings up our order "Alright then, that'll be 3 dollars 20" Lapis nods and hands her some of the money from her hand. The girl behind the counter hands Lapis her change and then the two drinks "Have a nice day" as we start to walk away she hands me my drink and pushes the door open, letting it close by itself behind us.

Walking out of the store Lapis gestures to one of the tables outside with her thumb "Hey, wanna sit down while we drink these?" i nod slightly as my hands start warming up from the hot liquid in the cup "Oh, um, yeah, sure" she walks over to the table and sits herself down, i follow and sit across from her. She takes a gentle sip from her cup and sets it down on the table, i take a sip from mine but keep it in my hands, Lapis looks over at the view of the beach "It's nice today, huh?" i nod slightly as i look down at my cup "Yeah... h-hey, um Lapis, can i ask you something, um, a little personal?" she turns back to look at me "Uhh, sure, go ahead i guess" i look back down at my cup and rub the sides slightly with my fingers "Um, well, you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but... what did you ever see in Jasper?... i mean, he's not exactly the nicest person..." Lapis looks down at the table for a second, a look of thought on her face before she slowly looks back up at me"Well... i... i guess he just seemed nice at first, he would be kind to me, lavish me with attention, that sort of thing... but, well, i think you know what happened next..."

There's a look of slight sadness on her face once she finishes talking, i can't help but feel bad for asking her "Lapis... i'm sorry if my question offended you, i ju-" she interrupts me as i'm speaking "No... it's fine... i supposed it would have come up at some point, best to just get ot out of the way now" i look up at her and she's staring down at my hands "S-still, i didn't want to make you feel bad..." she slowly looks up from my hands and to my eyes, a slight smirk appears at the corner of her mouth "But you know what? because of Jasper, i know what a relationship shouldn't be, and what kind of person i don't like... and maybe even helped me learn what kind of person i do like... and i suppose coming back here has helped me figure that out too".  

I stare at her for a second as she takes a slow sip from her cup before she speaks up again "Y'know Peridot, i'm glad you asked me that question, it feels good to talk about it... i think this friendship might just work out" i stare blankly for a second before snapping out of it "W-wait, so we're friends now?" she nods slightly as she takes another sip from her drink "Yeah, i guess we are". We spend the next hour or so sipping from our cups and talking about almost anything that popped into our head, staring out at the ocean view beside us.
