Hajime woke up very suddenly, his body sprawled out across the bed in a star shape. He let out a small yawn as he lifted both his hands to his face and dragged them down over his eyelids in an attempt to relieve the soreness in his eyes from waking up so abruptly.

Hajime glanced at his alarm clock, it was 3am. He shifted his gaze to the window, it was still dark out. Hajime rolled his eyes and let out a frustrated huff and turned over to face the other side of the room, curling himself up his hands in front of his chest. Hajime noticed he was still in his clothes from the day before - his uniform but without his blazer and shoes. Guess I just passed out up here. His stomach rumbled. Apparently I didn't eat either.

Hajime had definitely skipped dinner, he only remembers coming straight up the stairs after his walk home with Nagito.

Nagito...

"Wonder if he's okay," Hajime mused. He remembered how last night went down on the walk home. Hajime was very stern with Nagito. Oh who was he kidding, he practically flipped at the guy. He knew that he went too far.

"W-where is all this coming from?" Nagito had stuttered innocently.

"You just lock yourself away from people, as if you believe you don't belong. Why?"

"It's...Hard to understand, Hajime-"

"Don't pull that. Try to imagine coming into a brand new place, alone, not knowing anybody, being forced to fit in as quickly as possible,"

"Hajime, stop,"

"And despite all that you do, you have to move again to another brand new place, with brand new people, and you don't know what you did wrong, but you still end up hating yourself and then-"

"HAJIME! You're upsetting yourself, and me."

"...I'm.."

"...sorry", Hajime said aloud to himself. He knew deep down he wasn't really talking so much about Nagito.

Hajime was talking about himself.

His stomach rumbled again. Louder this time. He was REALLY hungry now. Hajime groaned as he lifted himself up from his curled up position and left his bed to acquire a late night snack. Why his body had decided to wake him at 3am? A mystery to him.

Hajime gently closed the bedroom door behind him and walked down the stairs with caution as to not wake up his parents. He made his way to the kitchen, feeling groggy and empty. He flipped the light switch and grimaced at the brightness.

Hajime grabbed a cookie from the glass jar on the counter. Okay make that two cookies. Maybe three. The boy hadn't eaten a thing since he got home early last night, he needed a little extra. Once satisfied with the number of sugary treats he would intake at this ungodly hour of the night he closed the jar and leaned against one of the counters. Hajime decided to get some fresh air in his lungs after feeling so trapped in his thoughts. Very quietly, he made his way to the front door, unlocking, opening and closing it gently behind him. The street was quiet, with the faint sound of cars in the distance. The air was cold, it was late October after all. Hajime welcomed it though, enjoying the freshness of an autumn night caressing his skin. As he munched on his choc chip cookies in the open air on the porch, he glanced over at Nagito's house. And his thoughts drifted to how Hajime's outburst was received.

It was the smile.

Nagito had a smile on his face even after Hajime had thrown out all his emotion at him. Not to mention that Nagito knew that Hajime was not referring to Nagito but to himself before Hajime even noticed. Hajime felt his stomach drop thinking of this. He was mortified that he got so worked up and ran his mouth. Nagito probably thinks Hajime is insane. And this is Nagito we're talking about. The guy who smiles after a situation like this.
