Kai's pov
It was about a month since Nya destroyed the preeminent. And since people really started paying atention to us. They never did before, but somthing we did, I guess they started to follow.
Dareth became our 'manager' (unofficially) somehow and organizing public appearances, charity things, talk shows, and it's only adding to the fire.
Heh, fire puns.
Anyways, I've been chaced by mobs of reporters, fangirls, promoters, and a crazy shop owner that kept yelling at me for driving away his customers when I walked by.
But I have to say, that girl, uh, s/y/n (similar to your name) or something like that was a nice change. She was the only girl I've met -or, ran into, is more like it- that hasn't screamed my name at the sight of me.
Don't get me wrong, I like the attention, but there's only so much I can handle. So I've been more cautious about being in public. A hoodie and some sunglasses usually suffice.
Except, today, they seem to make me stand out more.
My red and gold hood flying behind me, and my glasses long lost, I'm trying to run down the crowded market street full of cafes and shops. All I wanted was to pickup coffee for the team.
"Excuse me, sorry, sorry. Look out! Sorry, excuse me, ninja in peral coming through!" I try to loose my tail of fans in the large crowds to no avail.
That is until I feel something be draped over my shoulder and squish what I presume to be a hat on my head, pushing my hair infront of my eyes.
The mystery arms then proceeded to guide me into a crowd of business men in black suits.
I look to my right to see s/y/n with a big smirk on her face and her hand on my arm.
I watch as the fangirls run past us without a second glance and s/y/n's smirk grow.
"Thanks, Steve. See you soon," she waves to the group we were 'hiding' with. The man waves back with a laugh and says something in Italian to wich she responds.
She takes back her black suit jacket and bennie purposefully messing up ny hair I'm sure. Putting them both on herself. "Now we're even. I just saved your life," her eyes were a beautiful shade of e/c stairing victoriously at me, out lined by sharp but minimal eyeliner, giving her a professional look. "You're welcome. "
I rolled my eyes and tried to fix my hair. "Thanks, s/y/n."
"It's actually Y/n." She corrects.
"Oh, sorry."
"Eh, it's fine," she waves it off. "You were sort of in a rush when we last met."
I chuckle, "yeah, you could say that."
She looks at her feet and gestures over her shoulder with her thumb in a kind of cute way. "I just got of work, do you, maybe want to get a coffee with me?"
I dont really have to think. I blink. "Ye-yeah, sure. That sounds nice."
The smile she gives at my answer makes me forget about every other pretty girl I've met.
Your pov
"So then, Wu says that it was Lloyd who did everything because he 'misplaced' his lesson plan!" Kai whisper yelled. I laughed at his story. We had sat down in a small cafe with a coffee each, Kai wearing my black jacket again as a disguise.
I still can't believe I asked a ninja to get coffee. But now that we've been talking a bit, I realize that he's not that different from a normal teen.
After my hard day interning for Edificat's Architecture, I was glad to have someone to talk to. It was a nice change from Bf/n. She's my best friend, but she can be a bit... intense.
It's nice to have someone new to talk to. That's all.
"Sounds like you're all quite close."
"We are," he says with a fond smile. We sit there for a moment before he shakes himself out of his thoughts. "So, what about you?"
"Me? Oh, I'm as plain as pizza. My life is just so complicated right now I don't know where to start," I laugh.
He rests his head on his fist, ready to listen to my story. Am I really telling this guy my story?
I take a deep breath. "My mom is remarrying, he's okay, but he works for this big magazine and thinks I should wear heels and makeup and dresses and do cheer and have a thousand friends. Become the center of attention and Miss. Popular." I give a little jazz hands at the title.
"But that's not you,"
"No,"
"Then, who are you?"
"I'm the girl that's always in the back, the first to come to mind when you need a favour. I want to make my mark on the world. but I don't need the spotlight to do that. Just work in the corner till I'm ready to show the world what I can do. You know?"
"Hehe, not really, I kinda like the attention." He laughs, rubbing the back of his neck.
I raise an eyebrow. "I can tell. I just think that it would just be a burden. I run track, I file designs at Edificat's Architecture and I'm a high school junior . There's not much life for people to broadcast anyway. But soon? I'll be the CEO of my own company, restoring Ninjago to it's architectural golden age." I smile at my dream, I know he knows there's more to my story, but he doesn't push, and I'm thankful.
"But tell me more about Lloyd and the others, you live quite the exciting life! And I'll have to have something to excuse my whereabouts to Bf/n."
He smiles, and I realize how warm it makes me feel.
Kai's pov.
I don't think I've had such a nice time in a while. I felt really... carefree around Y/n. So when I said goodbye to her and parted ways, her going to her friend's and me to the Bounty, I may or may not have slipped a napkin with my number on it in her jacket pocket.
But it's cool to know I have a new real friend.
Just next time we meet, I hope it's for some reason other than fangirls.
