003. Your identify. The only thing you've ever known besides pain and manipulation. 

Your power was molded to be a weapon, regardless of how you felt about it. The power to manipulate minds comes in handy, as you learned early on. They made you do horrible things as you were there the longest out of anyone else, as far as you knew. You were the test subject for the others- seeing how far they could push you. 

And it fucked you up royally. 

But once you were set free of that awful place, you were able to start your life. Moving in with the Byers, you had a family, a life. Will named you Braelee and everyone went along with it because it fit you and you loved it. You could also visit El whenever you wanted and made friends. And also made very special friends. 

Billy; the first person you've ever loved sincerely since being freed from the prison of you childhood. And you noticed the change in him as almost everyone did. He became erratic, angry, and emotionless. You tried to manipulate his mind into telling you what was wrong, but the way he looked at you made you stop. It was almost as if he knew what you were trying to do, and the look in his eyes shut you down immediately. 

You thought he needed space so that's what you gave him. You still weren't used to the customs of the real world, so you did what you would have wanted in his shoes. 

But standing there in the mall was the worst experience you've ever had- worse than when you were the cause of multiple innocent people's deaths and worse when they would punish you for not doing what they asked. Every bad thing you had ever been though combined didn't come near to the way you felt while looking at the love of your life. 

So, you did what you had to do. 

Manipulating everyone to stay where they were, you trudged towards the catostrophe in front of you, blood trickling down your nose as you felt your mind imploding on itself from the amount of power you were using. 

Frozen in his place as well, Billy's eyes met yours, wild and frantic. Nodding slowly, you smiled before standing in front of him, holding his hands behind your back as you faced the mindflayer in front of you. 

The creature sized you up as you stood, your head held high. Even in your final moments, you recalled what you promised yourself once you were freed- no one would ever make you feel small again. 

The mindflayer screeched as it lodged itself into you, sucking the life out of you. But you didn't cry. You wouldn't give it the satisfaction. 

As you felt your body grow weaker, you mind released the hold on everyone as you started to lose consciousness. 

"Braelee," Billy yelled, pain overtaking all the other emotion laced in his voice. A loud bang sounded through the mall as the monster fell, it's days of killing innocent over, much like you. 

Smiling sadly at him, you felt him lower you to the ground, his hands shaking. 

"Why did you do this? Why would you? You can't leave me," he whispered, tears streaming down his face. His face started to become blurry as you felt the little life left inside you slipping away. 

"It's because I love you," you managed, choking a bit on the blood in your throat. 

"I love you so much," he coughed, getting choked on his tears and the emotion of the moment. With the last amount of energy you had, you squeezed his hand, hoping he could feel your love for even just a second longer. 

Your grip released as you felt your mind fade into oblivion. Finally, you were officially free.
