-Shinso POV-You'd listened in on the short interaction between L/n and Todoroki, and you'd smiled when she gave him some of her flowers. "Despite her tough appearance, she really is a sweet girl..." As L/n knocks on the door, you take a moment to read the small sign next to it. 'Room 102: Mrs. L/n'.
"No way... She's taking me to meet her MOM?? Shit, do I look okay? I should've put some concealer under my eyes, or something..." Quickly, you pull your phone out of your pocket in an attempt to see your reflection on the screen.
She must've heard you rustling around behind her, because she turned to look at you. "Don't worry, you look fine." She gave you one of her sweetest smiles before facing the door once more and sliding it open.
You followed L/n inside to find a woman sitting in a wheelchair, facing the window opposite you. You stood to the side as L/n quietly shut the door and set her purse down on the floor before going to a small cup of water on a table and dropping the flowers inside. She turned to see you watching her, and she pointed to the flowers. "Violets... Those were her favorite flower. It's the reason why I like them so much. It's also the reason why I dyed the ends of my hair the same color." She ran her fingers through the ends of her hair as she spoke, and you realized that it was the same color as your own hair, too... For some reason, you've never noticed this before.
You then wondered why she was talking about her mother like she wasn't even there, and you realized that the woman hadn't stirred or spoken since you entered the room. "What's her condition?"
She looked to her mother and let out a small sigh. "The doctors don't really have a name for it... But she's essentially stuck in an illusory world."
You felt your eyes widen. "Wow..."
"How did that happen?" you ask. She was silent for a moment before she walked over to the bed and sat on it.
"When I was four, my quirk manifested for the first time... It went out of control and caused her to go insane." She looked back at her mom. "She's unable to see or hear anything from the real world, but she can still physically feel things... She gets confused whenever someone or something touches her, because she doesn't know where it's coming from. I'm not even sure what kind of world I stuck her in... Usually, I'm able to see a person's surroundings if I focus enough, but that won't work on her."
You walk around to face her mom, and see that she has a tired, dazed expression on her face. You knew that L/n gets a lot of her physical traits from her father, but as you inspect her mother's features, you see...
"Her eyes... Her eyes are 100% her mom's."
She walked over and pulled up a small chair in front of her mother. "Since I got back from America, I've been trying to see if I could release her from this state with my quirk. I don't know if it's possible, but if there's anything I can do to help her, then it'll be worth it."
"How do you do that?" You were curious.
"I try to alter her senses to make her feel like she's in this very room. If that doesn't work, then I at least try to speak with her by placing myself in her illusion. Even if I can't see what kind of illusory world she's in, I'll still be able to see and hear her." She took a seat in the chair. "I'm going to try again, Mom..."
Looking straight into her mother's eyes, L/n focused. After a minute, her eyes squinted in concentration. It was fascinating to see what she looks like when she's using her quirk like this, however, it seemed as though the technique wasn't working. She broke contact from her mother's eyes for a moment and looked down at her hands. Slowly and timidly, she closes her eyes and places a hand on top of her mom's.
Right away, the woman looked around with terrified eyes, trying to see where the contact was coming from. "Mom..." L/n whispered. Her mother stopped moving and looked straight ahead.
"Y/n?" you heard the woman finally speak. Her voice sounded very hoarse, like it hadn't been used in a long time.
"Hi, Mom... I came back like I said I would." You looked at L/n, her eyes were still closed and she had a sad smile on her face.
"Y/n..." Her mother smiled; It was the same sad expression as L/n's. Her voice was very quiet, as though she was trying to save her energy.
"I brought a friend, too. You can't see him, but... his name is Shinso."
"Shinso?"
"Yes... He's very nice. You'd like him very much."
You couldn't help but feel flattered. L/n was speaking so highly of you to her mother while you were in the same room.
"What's he look like?" you heard the woman ask.
You glance at L/n... She didn't even need to look at you; She could describe you perfectly well with her eyes closed. "He's about my height. He has bags under his eyes that make him look very tired. You'd love his hair; His hair is violet and he has violet eyes with white pupils. His hair is also very wavy and it kind of sticks up out of his face."
L/n must've used her quirk to allow her mother to see what you looked like, because the woman then gave a warm smile. "He's very handsome." You felt your cheeks go pink and you look back at L/n... Her cheeks had done the same.
"I... I guess he is," she whispered.
Your face went even redder. "She thinks I'm handsome?"
"Do you remember the UA Sports Festivals, Mom?" she asked, trying to steer the conversation.
The woman nods. "It's been many years... but yes."
"Shinso actually made it to the one-on-one battles." You felt your face get hot again; You weren't sure if you'd ever be used to the fame that came with advancing so far in the festival.
"Wow, that's very impressive." Her mother gave another smile. She seemed so happy to be able to talk to her daughter. Then you saw L/n's face get very sad.
"I tried... I tried to bring you back again... But it didn't work." You watched as a lone tear fell down her cheek. You felt the urge to wipe it away, but you didn't want to startle her since her eyes were still closed.
"Y/n..." Her mother took her free hand and placed it on top of L/n's. "I appreciate you coming here... But I don't want you to worry about me. Knowing that you and your father are all right is enough to make me happy." More tears started to fall down L/n's cheeks as she listened to her mother speak.
"Shinso." The woman spoke a little bit louder to get your attention. "If you can hear me, I want you to know that it was a pleasure to meet you... If my daughter trusts you enough to bring you here, then you must really mean a lot to her. So take care of her for me, will you?" She gave another kind smile.
"I will, Mrs. L/n." You had no idea if she could hear you, but you felt the need to respond, anyway.
L/n gave her mom's hand a squeeze. "I love you, Mom." She reached forward and embraced her mother. After a second, her mom returned the hug, lightly rubbing her back.
"I love you too, Y/n."
So now we know what happened to Y/n's mom!
