Chapter 3. Carnage Part 2

Start from the beginning

Zavier didn't say anything because he knew that what I had said was true. He then looked into Will's direction and said, "I have already arranged what you had asked me to, Dr. Benson. Zach will be living with me until he gets permission to live alone." I stood up in anger, then asked Will, "Didn't you say that I was doing better, Will?" Will nodded in agreement at me. He then sighed and uttered: "You are indeed doing better, Zach, but you are stepping into society as a new man now. Things won't go your way immediately. You'll need guidance to survive in this world. You lost your ability to function due to stress and heartbreak. We need to make sure that you don't feel constrained again. You can do whatever you want if you can prove to your new psychiatrist that you can handle the pressure of working and living on your own."

I groaned while thinking about how I would have to face Zavier's lovers from now on. Zavier's lovers always stayed over for breakfast because he boasted about being a chef to everyone. Will put his hand on my shoulder then continued with, "You're an amazing man, Zach. I would hate to see you here again. Take your time to build your life back up again. It won't be easy, but there will be at least someone there to support you." I nodded in agreement, then walked out of Will's office to grab my stuff. I was glad that Zavier had brought a new set of clothes for me. I had been wearing patient clothing until now. I didn't want to walk out of the building in those clothes because I didn't want to draw people's attention.

All the nurses came to say goodbye to me, and some of them even asked for my phone number. I gave them Zavier's home phone number because my phone had malfunctioned due to not being charged for months. I felt liberated when I felt the cold air of Chicago. Zavier chuckled while watching me. He suddenly uttered while walking towards a street vendor, "I'm hungry, Zach. Let's go grab a sandwich." I quickly followed Zavier. My eyes fell on the magazine that a customer was reading the moment I reached the street vendor.

I clutched my chest when I saw Andrew's picture on the cover of the magazine. "Andrew Waltz, the smartest entrepreneur in the world." was written in bold letters on the front page of the magazine. Andrew was leaning against a wall and he had a smirk on his face. It felt like he was mocking me. I got startled when Zavier suddenly grabbed my hand. He pulled me away from the customer then asked me, "What happened between Andrew and you, Zach? I heard from one of the nurses that he never visited you at the hospital."

I knew that it was pointless to hide what had happened between Andrew and me from Zavier. I was going to live with him from now on, so he needed to know the truth. Zavier looked in shock at me when he heard that I had caught Andrew having sex with someone else. Zavier knew how much I loved Andrew. My friend growled in anger then yelled, "You should drag that piece of shit to court, Zach. You created the company by yourself. He did nothing to help you, and he's now using your ideas to increase his fame. He needs to pay. I'm sure that you can get your company back from him."

I sighed then responded to Zavier with, "I don't think that I can walk into that building without suffering another nervous breakdown, Zavier. Andrew has already forged the contract. And me being absent from the scene for months now won't help my case either. Who knows what he has told our associates about me. I should save myself from another embarrassment and move on with the little dignity that I have left. Will was right when he said that I wasn't ready to function in society yet. I need to forget about everything that happened before and take the next step."  I didn't want to tell Zavier about it yet, but I already knew how to pay Andrew back for what he had done to me. Andrew was going to beg me for forgiveness on his hands and knees by the time I was done with him. I just needed to coax a few people and wait for the right time to put my plan in motion.

Zavier pulled me into his arms suddenly, then uttered: "I'm here for you, Zach. You helped me in my time of need, and it's now my turn to repay you. I'm the man that I am today because of you. My restaurant even flourished because of your advertising. I will stay by your side and support you no matter what. I can't pay you back the money that I owe you, but I can be your shelter. You don't have to worry about your hospital bills because I have already paid them. You should just concentrate on becoming a millionaire again so you can trample on that bastard. I'm in dire need of some wealthy investors for my restaurants at the moment, so start doing your magic."

I pushed Zavier playfully away from me, then uttered: "I'll have to find a job at a major corporation for that, Zavier. You can't gather investors without a backup, my dear friend." Zavier burst out laughing, then responded to me with, "You are right, Zach. You'll need to find a job soon. Luckily, Los Angeles has a lot of companies who need your expertise." Zavier and I flew to L.A, after making sure that I had everything that I needed to start a new life. I was exhausted by the time we reached Zavier's apartment. Zavier lived in a luxury apartment in downtown L.A. I was glad when I saw that he had already arranged my room and my clothes. Zavier had rented a storage room to store the valuables that I didn't need.

Zavier's apartment had two bedrooms, a large living room, and a kitchen. I didn't feel comfortable at Zavier's house, even if it was luxurious. I had bought a two-story house in a quiet neighborhood for Andrew. It would take me some time to get used to all the tall buildings around us. Zavier went back to work after discussing some house rules with me. I decided to organize de rest of my stuff after he was gone. I was surprised when I noticed that Andrew had even packed the gifts that I had given him when we were still in high school. "He must truly hate me," I thought to myself while lying down on my bed. I needed some distraction, so I turned on Zavier's laptop to see if I could find a job in L. A.

There were no job openings in smaller companies. So I decided to apply for a job at some major companies. I got waitlisted at most of the companies. Some of them didn't even reply to me, but I wasn't going to give up. I sent them my application once again. I was glad that people only knew me as Zach Joseph because otherwise, companies would have instantly rejected me. People would see me as a corporate spy, and I didn't know if I could handle that.

I decided to start up my website designing business once again when my future looked dim. My site had always been active, and I had earned a lot of money from it throughout the years. I was now glad that I had never told Andrew about the site. The money that I had made through the website was in my secret account. No one except for me knew about it. I was reserving it for emergencies. I remembered the bank account when I was deliberating about how to pay my hospital bills. I had decided to tell Zavier about the site because I didn't want him to think that I was deceiving him.

I was going to use the money that I had saved to start up another business. The problem was that I needed approval from my psychiatrist before doing so. I would have to work my ass off to convince him that I was my old self again. And that I could handle the workload. Will had asked one of his friends to treat me. He had taken quite a liking to me and wanted to stay involved. Will's friend's name was Axel Jurgen, and he was from L.A. I already had an appointment with him on Monday. I felt helpless due to all the rules and regulations. I had always been independent and hated getting tied down now.

I knew that I would get myself in trouble by thinking like this, so I pushed everything into the back of my mind. I was starting a new life, so I needed to think positively. It was no use carrying my old baggage around. I stood in front of the mirror and practiced smiling again. I was going to do my best to survive on my own. I wasn't going to beg people to love me anymore. I knew my worth, and that was the most important thing.

I started working at a popular bar as a bartender and several other places while waiting for a reply from the companies. I took lessons to perfect my skills as a bartender and enjoyed working. My first meeting with my spychiatrist Axel Jurgen went great. Axel advised me to do activities to get my mind off of things. I chose to go on hiking trips three times a week and also joined a youth center. I helped the kids do their homework and taught them how to draw.

I also took care of everything while staying at Zavier's house. I cooked, cleaned, and did the shopping. I didn't want to give Zavier a reason to complain. Months passed by before I got an answer from one of the major companies. I was surprised when I read that it was from the Marquis empire. I didn't want an opportunity like this to go to waste, so quickly contacted the company to make an appointment.
