"Where are you what's going on?"

I felt bad for getting him upset over something that wasn't a big deal. I shouldn't have even said anything.

"Everything's okay, you don't have to worry. I'm at home now, but I'm about to go out."

I wasn't technically lying. I mean, it wasn't like my apartment was on fire and he didn't have to worry. Most of my stupid problems were at my own fault.

"Where?"

That one word made me decide I shouldn't tell him where because I knew he would get upset. I decided just to not go at all.

"Actually... I'll just stay home. You guys can come over if you want though."

"Josh is at a concert with an old friend. Cool if it's just me?

"Yeah."

"Okay I'll be there in half an hour."

I didn't reply. I had to hurry and try to clean up this place. I felt like a kid who was hurrying to clean their room before their parents got home. I wondered how I could be so extremely messy, seeing things like bras on the floor. Tyler was a pretty neat and tidy person, unlike other guys, so I felt the need to clean. Especially with my stay at his house being so nice.

I heard my cheap doorbell buzz. Shit. Either he was early or I had lost track of time. On the way to the door I cursed myself, remembering there was literally nothing to do here. I had no food, drinks, or virtually anything to do here.

I opened up the white door to see my smiling dark-eyed friend. He was holding a white box.

"What's that?"

"It's a Wii, silly," he said making me sound like an idiot.

"Oh yeah, like the ones you, Josh and I used to play like... six years ago?" I laughed.

He walked past me, into my apartment.

"This is nice," he said. "and yep."

"You still play with it?"

"Um... of course I do. You don't?"

"No," I started to laugh. I was already starting to feel better from earlier. I could always count on him to lighten the mood, no matter how crappy I felt.

"But of course you remember how to play Mario Kart, right?" he said, setting the machine down next to the television.

"Um..." I trailed off.

"Oh my god! I can't believe you," he said half-sarcastically.

"I'm sorry, I didn't know you expected me to play our childhood video game into my twenties." I said, playing around.

"That's how you get good like Josh and me," he said, plugging cables in.

"We'll see if I kept my skills around."

"We'll see," he repeated.

His eyes wandered around the living room while a loading screen occupied the television. His gaze stopped from circling when he saw my guitar hanging on the wall. I cringed, waiting for him to say he wanted to hear me play something.

"You know, I haven't heard you play in a few years..." he said, about to suggest something inevitable.

"Really?" I said, even though I already knew he hadn't.

"Yeah, you should. Play something. I won't judge."

I squirmed. I really didn't want to. Just then the Mario Kart screen popped up.

"Oh, nevermind, maybe later." Thank the lord. Who would have thought Mario Kart could get you out of situations like this?

He handed me a remote and we played just like the old days. It had been so long since I heard him genuinely laugh like he did and let me tell you. It was healing. He was healing. Just his presence made everything so much better and I was glad to have such an awesome person walk back into my life. We played and talked for hours that just seemed like a few minutes because before I knew it, it was already 11 o'clock.

"Wow it's already getting late," he said, getting up and stretching his already long body.

"Are you leaving now?" I said, trying not to sound too sad.

"Yeah," he said disappointingly. "I could spend the night, but then Josh would get all weird and suspicious."

"True," I said, pulling the corner of my lip up. I watched as he started unplugging cords and such. When he finished, he stood back up slowly.

"I'll see you soon, right?" he reassured.

"Yeah, this was fun," I smiled.

"Bye, Jessica," he said, struggling with the doorknob, which I helped him with.

"Bye, Tyler," I said as I watched him start down the hall towards the elevator.
