Chapter 4. Troubled heart Part 1

Start from the beginning

"I told him that your jacket and your shoes were worth at least three hundred dollars. And that you should have sold them to clean yourself up, but he said like a good Samaritan does, "No, how will he stay warm if he doesn't have a jacket and shoes on his feet." He's too nice for his own good, I tell you. I strongly dislike goody-two-shoes like him. He will end up on the streets like you one day if he doesn't change his ways. My friend wanted to give you the money himself, but my boss gave him extra work to punish him for being meddlesome. Now read the note, take the money, and scram!"

I smiled while reading the note because it felt like my grandmother was talking to me at that moment. It was like she had led me to this place so I could meet my fated one. I laughed when I saw the image of the cute little penguin that was taking a shower on the note. It was like the man had already planned to give me the money.

I folded the piece of paper then grabbed the money. I slowly stood up then looked in the direction of the gorgeous man who was standing in front of the restaurant. I chuckled when I heard the man yell, "There is a cheap motel not far from here. You can rent a room for an hour there. It will cost you only thirty dollars. You can use the rest of the money to call the number that is on the back of the note. Good luck, and be safe!"

The gorgeous man got startled when someone called out to him in anger. I couldn't hear the man's name due to the sudden traffic, but I, fortunately, knew his initials. The man had written his initials in capital letters on the note. I checked the restaurant's name, then yelled, "Thank you, Z.J. I will certainly pay you back!"

The man who had handed me the message shook his head, then crossed the road. I perked up my ears when I heard him ask his handsome colleague, "How do you know how much a room costs at the motel, Z.J?" I burst out laughing when I heard the gorgeous man respond to his friend with, "I have eyes, and I can read. There is a huge billboard in front of the motel stating all the details."

I finally knew what to do, so I walked straight towards the motel. The motel clerk cringed when he saw me, but he still rented me a room. There were soaps and towels in the bathroom of the motel room. I took a shower while chanting the restaurant's name to make sure that I didn't forget it. I was planning to go back to the restaurant to thank my savior. I wore a bathrobe after I finished showering. I then walked to the lobby again and asked the clerk if I could use the motel's phone. The clerk instantly charged me ten dollars to make a call.

A woman with a sickly sweet voice answered the phone. I was overjoyed when I heard that I had reached the Los Angeles County Sherriff's department. I explained to the woman who I was and that I needed to contact my father. I wasn't surprised when she informed me that my father had been looking for me. Two police officers came to the motel to see if I wasn't a prank caller. The policemen called my father when they realized that I was telling the truth. My father came to the motel with extra set clothes. He also paid the clerk to extend my stay.

My father took me to a hospital for a check-up as soon as we left the motel. I was exhausted by the time I reached my apartment. It seemed like my father knew that I didn't want anything to do with either him or his family. So he bought a luxurious apartment for me. I went straight to bed after taking another shower and shaving my beard.

I placed the note in my wallet after I woke up to remind me what I had gone through. I knew that everything happened due to my stubbornness, but it led me to someone who I would possibly cherish for the rest of my life. I started vomiting the next morning. I also had a massive headache. It was like someone had split my head open. I was baffled because my check-up went great the day before.

My father took me to the hospital again when one of my maids called him to notify him about my health. The only thing that I remember after that is the doctor telling my father that I got pneumonia due to staying in the cold for too long. I went through hell after that. I couldn't stop coughing and almost lost my life. I was like a dead person who was brought back to life after that. I only vaguely remembered what had happened across the restaurant due to my sickness.

The only thing that I still remembered was that I needed to visit the restaurant with the note that I had safely kept in my wallet. I had to stay at the hospital for a month due to my father's unnecessary concerns. He wanted me to gain the weight that I had lost. He kept feeding me his wife's food to fatten me. I spent my time reading business magazines and books while staying at the hospital. I went to look for the restaurant after I had recovered. I was beside myself with joy when I finally found the place.

I showed the restaurant owner the note, then asked him if I could meet Z.J. I was shocked when I heard that Z.J had moved to Chicago with his friend. He also told me that Z.J and his friend was accompanied by another man when they left. The restaurant owner didn't even know what their current address was. It seemed like the restaurant owner hadn't made an effort to find out Z.J's full name. He had hired the man just because someone had told him that he was a good kid. I tried to track Z.J down but to no avail. I made sure not to forget about my savior when I couldn't find him. If my grandmother had led me to him earlier, then she would surely make sure that I would meet him again. I concentrated on my businesses after that. And ten years passed by before I knew it.
