After school Laura let her mom know she was going to hang out with friends, something Susan was very happy to hear. Laura followed in her car behind Eliza, driving in silence towards the reserve. Like many times before as they passed the threshold of the reserve she thought of the Cullens causing her to sniffle. She shook her head trying to rid the thoughts that had plagued her daily, she couldn't let herself get upset now. Reaching Jace's, Embry and Jared were there sitting outside his house. Laura narrowed her eyes as she parked, noticing the change in Embry's appearance she made the conclusion he was also a new member of the pack. Seeing Laura's car Embry stood up and jogged over, after all he'd been a good friend and her previous state meant he'd not seen much of her in the past few months.
"Hey, it's good to see you" he smiled happily as Laura got out of her car.
"Eh hem, I'm here too" Eliza joked throwing her arms in the air as she shut her car door.
"Yeah, but we see you all the time" Jared smirked, to which Eliza stuck out her tongue in response.
"Eliza asked me to come" Laura told them as she walked towards Jace's house where Jared still sat.
"Go check what's taking Jace so long will you?" Jared asked Eliza as the girl made her way up the steps and let herself into Jace's house.
Laura joined Jared on the steps and Embry followed suit. Looking over her shoulder Laura waited a moment after Eliza had gone in before turning her attention back to the boys, Embry in particular. "So, you're a four-legged beast too now?" she smirked.
The boy went wide-eyed for a second before letting out an exhale. "I forgot you knew" he breathed, his hand on his chest. Laura furrowed her brows surprised until Embry spoke again, "The guys told us everyone who knows. Of course you stuck your nose in and found out by bugging Sam" he teased nudging her with his elbow.
Laura managed a genuine smile, something she'd hadn't done it a while. "How's Jacob?" she asked, him being the other res best friend she had.
Embry shrugged, "Fine, he was fixing motorbikes with Bella last time I saw him"
Nodding once she looked down to the step beneath her feet at the mention of Bella, both boys noticed and shared a look. "So you and Jas-"

Luckily Embry was cut off by the sound of the door opening. Eliza and Jace began to exit and so Laura stood up to make room for the couple to come down the steps. "Oh my bag" Eliza cursed herself as she headed back inside. Once standing Laura turned to face the guys again, smiling at Jace first. Jace smiled back, but then it seemed like his gaze was transfixed. The brunette furrowed her brows confused and looked at Jared and Embry who had shocked looks on their faces.
"Uh oh" Jared swallowed as he stared up at Jace. Jace seemed to come out of his daze and looked at his fellow shifters, while Laura looked between the trio completely out of the loop about what was happening. Their mental link as a pack meant the two boys knew exactly what had occurred.
"Hello, earth to the pack, what's going on?" she asked, waving her arms playfully to try and get their attention.
"You just?" Embry trailed off as both he and Jared stood, not taking their eyes off Jace.
"I got it" Eliza's preppy voice called as she made her way out the door once again, though seeing the strangeness of everyone she soon became just as bewildered as Laura.
Slowly Jace turned to face his girlfriend, "I need a break from us..."
Laura's mouth dropped as both Embry and Jared looked away awkwardly. Eliza looked around at everyone, feeling embarrassed, "W-what?" she stuttered, his words sinking in as she began to grow upset.
"I'm sorry" he apologised before glancing over his shoulder to Laura. Eliza followed his gaze and scoffed looking at her friend, instantly assuming this was to do with her.
"What? Your boyfriend dumps you so you get mine to do the same?" she blabbed walking down the small set of steps.
"I didn't say anything!" Laura assured her, offended that her friend thought she could do something so petty.
"This is so embarrassing" Eliza muttered as she walked passed Laura heading straight to her car and driving away as quickly as possible.
Laura watched her speed off from the house before turning back to Jace, "What the hell?!" she asked, throwing her arms in the air.
Again all the boys looked at each other. "I think Sam's calling us" Jared thumbed over his shoulder, eyes wide on Embry signaling to him. "Catch you later" he said to Jace, patting his shoulder before beginning to leave with Embry right by his side.

Laura stood with a dumb look on her face at what had just happened. Jace watched as the boys walked away, rubbing the back of his neck anxiously as he slowly turned back to face Laura. "A lot of wolf stuff was explained to you, right?"
Despite not knowing what that had to do with him basically dumping Eliza out of nowhere Laura nodded, "Yeah, not everything, but enough" she answered eying him confused.
Exhaling heavily Jace dropped his hand from his neck and spoke, "I imprinted on you"
"You what?" she shouted, head cocking forward hoping she'd misheard him. "Jace tell me you didn't. You're joking right? You're all in on this, a joke to get back at me for how I've been acting the last few months, right?" she begged, though the expression on his face said it all. Laura ran her fingers through her hair frustratedly.
"You know we can't control it" he breathed as he walked towards her.
"But you didn't have to break up with Eliza on the spot! Now she thinks it's my fault and she has no idea about you guys so I can't explain what happened" Laura huffed. This was the last thing, the very last thing she needed. Jace was her friend, that was it, she didn't see him any differently, she never had, and now this. This had been the first time they'd seen each other since his shift, and the imprinting process was unmistakable.
"I had to. You know what imprinting means, I'd just be leading her on and I can't do that to her"
"I am not your soulmate" Laura almost laughed at the idea which caused Jace to furrow his brows. "No offense but I don't like you that way Jace, your my friend, my good friend but that's all" Shaking her head Laura turned and began to walk away from him. Even though he was no longer around, she still loved Jasper, her broken heart wasn't suddenly mended, nor did she magically love Jace.
"That's all we were, but it's different now" Jace said as he began to follow behind her. "I know you're not a shapeshifter, so you can't feel it..."
Laura spun around to face him, stopping the boy mid-sentence. "I have been avoiding everyone for months because my boyfriend left me, and the first time I come to hang out with you guys you ruin it by doing this!" Turning away again she opened her car door and quickly got inside.
"Laura don't go, please. I can't take it back, and I'm sorry it happened so suddenly, but this doesn't have to be a bad thing" His attempts to win her over were useless. Not passing him another glance she reversed before driving away from the Fuller's home.

Why, why couldn't I just hang out with my friends, why did this stupid Quileute stuff have to exist?! I don't want Jace, I don't want the attention I know he's going to shower me with. I'd rather be alone than having a wolf at my beck and call.

Once she got home Laura attempted to call Eliza but she wouldn't answer so instead she left a voicemail and texted her. An hour later while having dinner with her family Laura felt her phone vibrate making her quickly reach into her pocket for it.
"No phones at the table" her mom comment nonchalantly as she sprinkled salt on her food.
"It's important" Laura muttered as she got out the phone, though upon seeing Jace's name on the screen she frowned and tucked the phone back which caused her mother to raise an eyebrow though she didn't question it.
Later that night while in her room listening to music through her earphones, Susan quietly let herself into Laura's room, knocking as she entered. Turning in her chair and seeing her mom Laura was quick to pause her music. "What's up?"
"I just wanted to say I'm happy to see you getting back to yourself a bit" she smiled, having been worried for so long about her daughter. Laura dropped her gaze for a moment and nodded. "There'll be other boys honey"
"Mom, can you not" Laura was quick to stop her.
Exhaling lightly Susan walked towards her daughter and held out the hand she'd been keeping behind her back to reveal a diary. "I used to have one, great place to keep my thoughts, get out frustrations. I even gave mine a name" she admitted embarrassedly as she placed it on the desk. "I've had this for a while but wasn't sure whether to give it to you or not"
Looking at the diary, Laura flashed a small smile. "Thanks mom" she mumbled, "I've still got some homework to do so..."
"Oh of course" Susan smiled before beginning to leave the room, "Just give the writing a try okay? For your old mom" she asked lively before heading out.

Once Susan had left the room Laura placed back in her earphones and grabbed the diary. She flicked through it absentmindedly. Letting out a sigh she opened it on the first page and leaned forward in her seat her pen hovering over the page.
