"What should I even play?" You consider your options while staring at the pick in your hand. "What's something they've probably never heard before?" An idea pops into your head at that moment and you smile to yourself. You position your fingers on the frets and play a chord first to get a feel for both the guitar and the pick. Then, you take a deep breath and close your eyes before striking the first note.
-Flashback-
"Dad, what's this song?" You look to your father as he drove with you sitting in the passenger seat. You had just turned thirteen, and your dad finally allowed you to sit next to him in the car. You got your taste in rock music from him, as he often had you listen to his old albums while he was driving.
"It's the United States national anthem."
"Who plays it?" You really liked the sound of it, and you wanted to know more.
"A very famous guitarist named Jimi Hendrix. This is from an event called 'Woodstock,' in 1969."
You listened as Jimi struck each note with all of the emotion that he held in his soul. You were utterly entranced by this performance... Each chord he played was a pull on your heart, and you've never been more in love with a song than you were in that moment. Even when Jimi went off the deep end and played random hardcore riffs between verses, you sat there and soaked in each and every note.
As soon as you went home, you went to the computer and looked up 'Jimi Hendrix Woodstock National Anthem 1969' and found a video with the original footage from the concert. You watched it twenty times before deciding that you would learn how to play it on your own guitar. After months of practicing every single day, you finally figured it out and performed it in the living room in front of your dad. He tried to hide it, but tears came to his eyes as he watched his little girl perform such a legendary and historic piece of music.
*A/n: Just listen to the first 00:58... After that, it gets a little crazy. xD
Since that day, you held that song close to your heart... Not only did it mean a lot to you because of your partial American heritage, but knowing that you could recreate one of the most famous feats in musical history – by none other than Jimi Hendrix! – was enough to push you to become the best musician that you could possibly be.
-End Flashback-
As you finished striking the last chord of your rendition of Jimi's national anthem, you opened your eyes to find that you had begun tearing up while playing. After wiping your eyes for the last time that day, you looked up to find all of class 1A – Hitoshi included – staring at you with their mouths agape. Then, all at once, everyone applauded. Even a bunch of students from other classes had stood behind 1A to listen to you, and they all shouted, whistled and clapped at your performance. All of your friends rushed up to you at once and began complimenting your talents.
"You're even BETTER than I thought you'd be!!!" Kaminari gushed as he took the guitar from your hands.
"I told you she was amazing," Jiro said while looking to the electric blonde.
"Truly a performance of darkness," added Tokoyami, which you decided to take as a compliment.
After receiving plenty of enthusiastic praise from your friends, you felt a hand on the small of your back, which caused a blush to appear on your face. "We ought to get going so we can get ready," Hitoshi whispered in your ear. You remembered that you still had your own event to prepare for.
