"JESUS CHRIST Y/N! I ALMOST DIED!" schlatt said as he shakily put on his seatbelt now that he had the time to. you were cackling.
"i'm sorry but the look you had on your face was PRICELESS!" you said in between snorts.
"let's just go," he grumbled, crossing his arms in self pity. this time, you accelerated a little slower. you had turned out of your driveway and onto the paved road that went up your hollow. the spot you were going to was a little ways away, so you started talking to schlatt.
"do you like it down here so far?"
"i really do. it's nice not being cooped up in the big city all the time, ya know?"
"yeah, i'm grateful i still have this place to come to and unwind every now and then."
"who lives through here?" schlatt asked, gesturing to the road you were driving.
"at the mouth of the holler, it's some random families, but after mom and dad, it's mostly family on dad's side," you responded, pointing out people's houses as you drove by them. schlatt chuckled and you looked over at him with curved eyebrows. "what's so funny?" you questioned as you turned to a small hill that led up to your family cemetery.
"i love your accent. the way you say hollow gives me butterflies," he responded, looking over at you and admiring your features. his statement stunned you and all you could do was smile and blow a kiss as your cheeks turned a violent shade of red.
you reached the top of the hill and turned to go up on a much larger hill, but not before looking over at the small section of land that you were on, taking in every blade of grass and every tree.
the hill that led up to a large clearing was just as bumpy and difficult to drive without getting stuck as you remember it being. after multiple instances of you speeding like a maniac and schlatt holding onto the handles attached to the frame for dear life, you finally made it. you smiled as all of the memories of coming up here with friends and having picnics or coming up alone and just thinking flooded your mind. you looked over at schlatt as he just looked around in awe.
"y/n- th-this is amazing! i literally don't know what to say... this is ju-" schlatt stuttered out but you interrupted him. "beautiful."
"yeah..."
you kept driving deeper and deeper before turning around when you reached the end of the hillside.
"can you stop up here? i just want to get out and look around, if that's alright," schlatt asked, looking at you for approval.
"yeah, i can do that. just watch out for snakes, especially by the pond over there," you said as you gestured to your left. you shifted into neutral and shut off the vehicle as schlatt got out and just walked around, taking in everything.
you watched him as he just looked up to the sky, down to the grass, back up to the sky, back down to the grass, and everywhere else his eyes could go as he took deep breaths, the scent of the wilderness around him filling his nose before stopping to look at you. he extended his arms out and did a "gimme gimme" motion as he turned on his puppy dog eyes, which you were a sucker for.
you got out and walked over to schlatt. he was scrolling on his phone before stopping as a song began to play. you immediately recognized it as Can't Take My Eyes Off You by frankie valli, your favorite love song of all time. you used to preach about how romantic it would be to slow dance in the middle of nowhere to this song.
schlatt looked down at you with a smile as he put his hands on your waist. you put your arms around his neck as he looked at you with pure adoration in his eyes. he sighed.
