"how did i get so lucky?" he asked, shaking his head a little bit before looking up to the sky then back down to your eyes.
"i think the real question is how did i get so lucky," you smirked, pressing your head against schlatt's chest. he kissed the top of your head as you all swayed to the music.
the song finished awhile ago, but the two of you stayed there in the middle of the clearing holding each other tightly and swaying. the sun was about to start going down as its faint golden rays were glistening off of your figures. you didn't want this moment to end, but you quickly realized that your mom had probably finished cooking dinner by now. you didn't want to disrupt schlatt, but you figured you all needed to go home before your parents sent out a search party thinking you all had gotten lost somewhere.
"hey j? i think we need to go back. mom and dad are probably wondering where we're at," you said but schlatt just grumbled with, "not ready to go. i love you too much," as he shifted around and placed his head in the crook of your neck, his slow breaths tickling you.
after about three minutes of borderline pleading and promising to come back tomorrow, schlatt gave in and got into the passenger seat. you drove back to your house and parked the ranger in the exact same spot you had found it before going back inside and slipping your shoes off.
"supper's ready y'all!" your mom called from the kitchen. you walked towards the stove and saw that she had made your favorite meal. you quickly hugged her. "oh mom, you don't know how bad i've been craving this, thank you so much!" you exclaimed with a big smile before turning to schlatt and preparing him for the goodness of this meal.
"j, once you try this stuff, nothing will ever taste as good! it's truly the work of heaven!" you said, excitedly grabbing onto his sleeves and jumping. he chuckled with an "okay, calm down. if you say i'll love it so much i'll have to take your word for it."
after dinner, you and schlatt took your respective showers and hung out with your parents in the living room while you talked about random things from what new york was like right now to how your first grade teacher's family was doing.
you were all watching a documentary about old cadillacs but you were having trouble staying awake. you and schlatt were stretched out on the couch, you laying in between his legs with your head on his chest. one of his hands was wrapped around your waist while the other was pressed against the top of your head, his fingers playing with your hair. your arms were wrapped around schlatt like you were hanging on for dear life. schlatt noticed how sleepy you were getting but didn't say anything until a huge yawn came out.
"you that tired, y/n?" he asked, half chuckling.
"yesssss..." you sleepily said. "it's bed time for y/n."
"alright then, guess it's bedtime for j, too," schlatt joked as he slowly raised up and picked you up bridal style from the couch, your head buried in the crook of his neck. he looked over at your parents and apologetically smiled.
"looks like the boss is tired," your dad joked, making him and schlatt chuckle.
"yeaaaah, guess it looks that way," he drew out before looking at you as your eyes sleepily fluttered open, realizing you weren't on the couch anymore.
"goodnight mom, goodnight dad. love ya, see y'all in the morning," you said, half awake. you gave them a dopey smile and snuggled deeper into schlatt's shoulder.
schlatt nodded to your parents with a quiet "goodnight," and carried you upstairs and into your bedroom. he placed you under your soft comforter and laid it over you.
"i'm gonna go brush my teeth and then i'll be right there with ya, okay?" schlatt said as he walked across the hall to the bathroom.
you decided you wanted to show him something cool when he got back, so before he walked back in, you whispered "alexa, turn on cool lights." after a few seconds, the room was filled with purple light emanating from the LED light strips around your room.
schlatt walked back in and flipped down the light switch by your door and got confused when the room was filled with the colored light.
"how do you turn those things off, hon?" schlatt asked as he confusedly pointed to the light strips surrounding the room.
"get in bed and i'll show you," you replied, flipping open the blankets as if you were inviting him.
"alrighty, whatever you say," he responded. schlatt climbed into the small bed and immediately snuggled up to you and placed a soft kiss on your forehead, wrapping his arms around your waist and pressing his chin into the crook of your neck.
"watch this," you said, smirking. "alexa, turn cool lights off." just then, the room went dark.
"that was cool, not gonna lie, y/n," your boyfriend responded, making you laugh.
"i love you, j," you smiled and looked at the love of your life that was snuggled up to you.
"i love you too, y/n," was the last thing you could remember before you fell asleep, dreaming of your future with schlatt.
