I duck to dodge the first punch, but didn't see the second one in time and take a solid shot to the jaw. "Ow" I mutter and give my best death stare to the grinning jerk in front of me.
"Oh come on princess, you have got to pay attention. At this rate, it'll take YEARS to build up your stamina."
"Don't call me that!" I took a swipe at HIS jaw. He laughed and bounced back out of my reach. "Now, now princess. Temper, temper."
I gritted my teeth. "You're not helping." I spun around and grabbed my towel out of my backpack and wiped the sweat off my face. Then I dropped down on the bench and groaned. How can I be this sore after only one week? I sighed and looked at Dabi. "I really am pathetic, aren't I?"
He motioned for me to scoot over, then sat beside me. "You haven't been training very long. It takes time to learn fighting skills. Add to that the fact that you're just learning how to use your abilities. Honestly you are doing pretty good." Then he nudged my side with his elbow. "But it would help if you would focus and quit getting distracted. So, what's on your mind?"
I pretended to tie my shoes. "The sports festival is in a couple of days. I don't know if I'm ready. I am afraid that I might panic if I have to use fire."
I glanced up at him. He was frowning at me. "That's why we've been training, isn't it?"
I sat up. "Yes, but it doesn't feel like I've made any progress."
He snorted, "You have. You're just too hard on yourself.""I guess." I got up and stuffed my things in my backpack and zipped it up. He grabbed his stuff and we headed out. As I locked the gate, I said "Hey Dabi, why did you offer to help me anyway. You didn't even know me."
I looked back at him to see him staring at me. He ran his hand through his hair and sighed. "To be honest, it's because you remind me of my little sister."
I grinned. "Yeah! Then she must be AMAZING!"
He grinned and threw his arm around my shoulder. "She's pretty special. Let me walk you to school princess and I'll tell you all about her."
I gritted my teeth and pinched his arm. "STOP CALLING ME PRINCESS!"
He laughed and nudged me to start walking. And he told me about his little sister, Sakae, who works at a cookie stand in the mall. (Who is Sakae? And what happened to Amber?)
