Thanksgiving break had finally arrived and most students flew out the building faster than the teachers could blink.
Iris, on the other hand, had just learned that a storm was on its way and her parents' flight home was canceled.
"Are you kidding me?" she said.
"What's up?" Jordan asked coming over.
"Mom and dad's flight got canceled because of the storm,"
"For real?" he asked
Iris nodded, "Yeah. She called Aunty Kathy-"
"Oh hell no. I will starve before I go anywhere near her house,"
Iris chuckled, "We don't really have any other choice. Aunt Kathy is supposed to meet us at the house,"
"Nuh-uh," Jordan said shaking his head, "You better start making some phone calls. We're staying with someone else over the break,"
Iris chuckled, "I'm not calling Jonathan,"
"Call James,"
"James is not even here. He and his parents went to their log cabin or whatever for the week,"
"Yeah, and I spoke to James today. Actually, we face timed the place is like one of those log mansions you see on HGTV. Call him,"
"I don't want to impose on his vacation,"
"Call him or I will, "
"Jordan,"
"Please," he begged, "We can't stay with Aunt Kathy- I would probably die,"
I rolled my eyes at the dramatic scene unfolding in front of me as I called James.
"Hey babe," he answered.
"Hey, how's it going up there?"
"Oh, it's awesome. It's starting to snow though,"
"Already, geez," Iris said
"You're leaving school now?"
"Yeah,"
"When do your parents get back?"
"Yeah- that's actually what I was calling about," she said
"What's wrong?"
"Their flight got canceled so they can't come back because of the storm. My mom wants to send us to Aunt Kathy's but Jordan strongly dislikes her and refuses to go. So we were wondering if maybe we could come to stay with you guys for a few days... I know it's super last minute and I totally understand if your parents aren't cool with it but-"
"Hold on," he said.
Iris waited while muffled voices went on, on his end, and then he was back, "Mom and dad said it's fine. They'd love to have you guys,"
"Really?" Iris said.
"Yup,"
"Oh, thank God," Iris breathed a sigh of relief.
"Yeah, just try to leave as soon as possible because it's going to get pretty bad up here, real fast,"
"Got it. Send me the address?"
"Yup,"
"Okay, thanks. Love you, see you later,"
"Love you,"
Iris hung up turning to Jordan, "We're set. Tell mom to tell Aunt Kathy not to bother,"
"Yes!" Jordan exclaimed, "Thank God!"
